ဟိုး.. ကြာမြင့်ခဲ့တဲ့ တစ်ချိန်တုန်းကပေါ့၊ အီတလီ ပြည် ဗင်းနစ်မြို့မှာ အန်တိုနီယို လို့ ခေါ်တဲ့ လူတစ်ယောက် နေထိုင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ သူက ကုန်သည်ကြီးတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ် တယ်။ ဝေးကွာတဲ့ နိုင်ငံရပ်ခြားတိုင်းပြည်များနဲ့ ကူးသန်းသွား လာနေတဲ့(ပင်လယ်ကူး)သင်္ဘောများစွာကို ပိုင်ဆိုင်သူ ဖြစ် တယ်။ သူက သူဌေးတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်သလို (လူကောင်းသူ ကောင်း) သနားကြင်နာတတ်သူတစ်ဦးလည်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Antonio's greatest friend was a young soldier, Bassanio, who loved a beautiful lady called Portia. But Bassanio was not a wealthy man, and he did not like to ask Portia to marry him, because she was as rich as she was beautiful. At last, however, he asked Antonio to lend him some money, so that he could visit Portia at Belmont, where she lived, and at least find out if she loved him

အဲဒီအချိန်မှာ.. ကြုံကြိုက်ချင်တော့ အချိန်နဲ့ သင်္ဘောအားလုံးက ပင်လယ်ပြင်မှာ ရောက်နေတယ်လေ ။ အဲဒီသင်္ဘောတွေ ပြန်မရောက်မချင်း ဘက်ဆန်နီယိုကို ချေး ဖို့ ငွေမရှိဘူး...။

'But go to a money-lender,' he said to his friend. "Borrow the money you need from him, and tell him that, when my ships come in, I will pay him back all that he has lent you.'

Now, there lived in Venice and old Jew named Shylock. The Jews in those days were the money-lenders of Venice. They lent money, but they forced people to pay so heavily for the loan that the Jews themselves became very rich. Shylock was one of the greediest Jews in Venice. Antonio hated him for his wicked ways, and he had often insulted the Jew and spoken rudely to him. For this reason, Shylock bated Antonio too, and was anxious to revenge the insults.

အဲဒီအချိန်မှာ... ရှိုင်းလော့ လို့ခေါ်တဲ့ ဂျူးလူမျိုး၊ အဘိုးကြီးတစ်ယောက်လည်း ဗင်းနစ်မြို့မှာ နေထိုင်(နေ) တယ်။ အဲဒီခေတ်က ဂျူးလူမျိုးတွေဟာ ဗင်းနစ်မြို့မှာ ငွေတိုး ချေးစားသူတွေပေါ့၊ သူတို့က ငွေချေးတယ်၊ ဒါပေမယ့် ချေတဲ့ငွေပေါ်မှာ အတိုးနှုန်း အများကြီးပေးဖို့ ငွေချေတဲ့ သူတွေကို ဇွတ်အတင်းတောင်းဆိုခဲ့တယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့် ဂျူး တွေဟာ အရမ်းကို ချမ်းသာလာကြတယ်။ ရှိုင်းလော့ဟာ လောဘအကြီးဆုံး ဂျူးတွေထဲက တစ်ယောက်ပေါ့၊ သူ့ရဲ့ ကောက်ကျစ်ယုတ်မာတဲ့ မနှစ်မြို့ဖွယ် လုပ်ရပ်တွေကြောင့် (သူ့ကို) အန်တိုနီယိုက မုန်းတယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့်(ရိုင်းလော့ကို တွေ့ရင်) မကြာခဏဆိုသလို စော်ကားမော်ကားပြုတယ်၊ ရိုင်းရိုင်းစိုင်းစိုင်း ပြောဆိုဆက်ဆံတယ်၊ အဲဒီအကြောင်း (ရင်း) ကြောင့်ပဲ... ရှိုင်းလော့ကလည်း အန်တိုနီယိုကို မုန်း တယ်။ အဲဒီ စော်ကားမှုတွေအတွက် ကလဲ့စားချေလိုစိတ် တွေ ပြင်းပြနေခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Bassanio, knowing that Shylock was very rich, went to him to borrow the money he needed. Shylock was delighted when he heard that Anaonio had promised to pay back the loan. He thought that his enemy had been given into his hands, and he made a wicked plan. He pretended to be generous, and said he would lend Bassanio the money and would not charge him anything for the loan.

"But Antonio must pay me back in three months,' Shylock said. And, just for a joke, he must sign a bond promising that I may cut off a pound of flesh from his body if the money is not paid.'
