Heartbreak
(1) Why democracy?
Should we fight defensively?
Some members of the Pure Land Party believe that the struggle for democracy is nothing more than a non-violent, democratic struggle to protect democracy from those who are oppressing and destroying democratic rights. This assumption is only partially correct.
If we fight with our hearts, then every fighter must have heart. Therefore, a fight with our hearts is nothing but a fight with our hearts against those who are suppressing and destroying democratic rights. I would like those who fight with our hearts to remember that it is a fight to fight against the impurities that destroy the heart within the fighters.
Therefore, while on one hand we are engaged in the struggle to defend democracy, on the other hand we must make special efforts to improve ourselves.
I would like every member of the Pure Land Movement to be especially aware that even if you struggle against the impurities within yourself in order to fill your heart, you are engaging in a battle for your heart.
Defending democracy and winning the battle of the heart is not the most difficult issue for us. If the cause of the struggle is right and beneficial, and if those who fight are endowed with pure will, unwavering courage, unyielding zeal, and good qualities, then any struggle will be successful.
Every person involved in the struggle for the defense of democracy must understand why they are entering the struggle. In order to understand this, discussions must be held systematically, even in the grassroots.
It would be helpful if we could systematically study the speeches of each leader and, after studying them, systematically discuss the noteworthy points from the speeches.
It is common to think that people are like that, and people who don't know why they are fighting for their lives, but who see others doing so, are disappointed when they encounter difficulties. Sometimes, when they hear voices, they listen to them and follow the wrong path.
Therefore, every person who is engaged in the struggle for the soul should try hard to understand why they are engaged in the struggle for the soul. Try hard to keep this fact in their bones.
Don't underestimate this. Make it a priority and try.

(2) There must be a purpose.
There will be ups and downs in the struggle for the heart. Sometimes you will see the overwhelming support of the people. Sometimes you will not see the support of the people. Sometimes you will see the overwhelming praise of the people. Sometimes you will see the overwhelming condemnation of the people. Sometimes you will see joy and happiness. Sometimes you will also see the unpleasant things such as arrest, detention, torture, and execution.
If the Blessed One, who has filled the four hundred thousand worlds with infinite glory, infinite destiny, infinite wisdom, and infinite power that can spread across the universe and the earth, cannot escape from these worldly desires, then how can petty politicians escape from these worldly desires?
There was also a time when, after preaching the Abhidhamma in the Tavatimsa celestial realm, he returned to the human world, creating an incredibly large and impressive procession, and Brahma, Sindhara, and the devas themselves surrounded the Buddha and accompanied him with beautiful and delightful instruments.
There was a time when the Buddha, while entering the land of Kosambi for alms, was being shouted at by Magandhi's henchmen.
Politicians are usually just human beings, and it is natural that they are as enthusiastic when they see highs as they are disappointed when they see lows.
Therefore, every person who is willing to fight should first understand why they are fighting and then make the following determination when deciding to fight.
"I cannot accept a life of being a failure and a failure. I cannot tolerate the fact that my children and grandchildren and all my relatives will also have to live in a cycle of being a failure and a failure."
"I firmly believe that the struggle for the soul is the only way out for me, my descendants, and all my relatives from the terrible life of human gain and loss."
"Therefore, even if my bones are broken and my life is torn, I solemnly vow to fight the great battle of my heart without fear, without retreating, without betraying my loyalty, until the day of victory."
Every warrior of the heart should make the above vow at least once a day, either in public or individually.
By making this determination regularly every day, even when the battle for the heart is at its peak, the fighters will not be discouraged. Even when the battle for the heart is at its lowest, there will be no complaints, no disappointments, no sitting outside, no jumping here and there, and no jumping over the edge.

(3) Love must grow.
I haven't found a better word yet, so I've used the term "heartbreak." Heartbreak is a phrase that is used interchangeably. However, since I haven't found a better word, let's use "heartbreak" as a temporary term.
Since those who are wrongfully arrested, imprisoned, tortured, or killed are mere mortals, it is natural for them to harbor resentment toward those who commit injustice.
To be honest, the person who is wronged by holding grudges does not benefit, but rather harms. I want you to remember that every grudge is unwholesome.
Therefore, those who have been wronged must learn to be patient and not to suffer harm after being wronged.
It is true that the injustice is not due to anything else, but to one's own past bad karma.
