Pronunciation Exercises (1)

“Look at the pronunciation keys and note the following points.

- (1) Note that there are (44) different sounds. Each sound has its own phonetic symbol.

-20 vowels including vowel pairs

Consonants -24 tones -

Total - 44 irons

(2) Look at the phonetic symbols used for the vowels (20). You will see that most of them are different from the English letters. Some are the same.

(3) Study the phonetic symbols used for the (24) consonant sounds. You will find that most of them are the same as the English letters. Only a few are different.

(4) Let's extract and study some vowel symbols.

The symbol / 1:/ written in number (7) always sounds like the letter “saw.” Therefore, the letter saw is written with the phonetic symbol / s 5:/.

The symbol / ಪ / written in number (8) is also always pronounced the same way as the letter “put”. Therefore, the letter Put is written with the phonetic symbol / put /.

(5) So you see that for each symbol letter there needs to be an example word. Only then can the “symbol” illustrate the sound it represents.

(6) Look at the vowel chart (13-20). You will notice that each symbol has two vowel letters. This type of sound is called a diphthong. It needs to be practiced carefully.

(7) You don't need to make any special effort to remember these symbols. You will remember them as you use them. You just need to use them.

(8) However, it is important to learn the correct pronunciation of the 44 sample letters. You will need to rely on your teacher or a native English speaker to ensure that the words are completely and accurately pronounced. If you get the pronunciation of these 44 letters wrong, you will be completely lost. -

(9) Once you have learned the symbols and their specific sounds, and the sounds that are produced by various combinations of these symbols, you will be able to pronounce any word in the dictionary.
