The power of "thought"
( The Power of Thought)
“Thomas A. Edison” • Thoughts of a man who wanted to be a partner
It is true that “thoughts” are “things”. According to the English proverb, “thoughts are things’ . This means that humans have a “mind” and thoughts arise in that “mind”. These thoughts do not disappear in the mind like water pouring into sand, but can appear as “things” in the material realm, and become “real”. Therefore, “thoughts are things” is directly said. If such thoughts arising in the “mind” can be combined with purpose , persistence , and burning desire, a powerful force can be created, and if you want to be rich, you can be rich in your thoughts, and if you want to possess other material things, you can possess them in your thoughts.
Edwin C. Barnes discovered the truth that you can “think rich and make rich.” His discovery didn’t happen overnight. It took a series of steps. It all started with a burning desire to work with a great man, Thomas Edison.
The main characteristic of Barnes's desire was its specificity. He wanted to work with Edison. That was it. He didn't want anything or want anything. If you carefully study the real story of how he made his desire a reality, you will understand the 13 guidelines for wealth.
When this "wish" or "inspiration of thought" first dawned on him, he was in no position to carry it out. There were two obstacles to his realization. The first obstacle was that neither he nor Mr. Edison knew it. The second obstacle was the lack of train fare to Mr. Edison's hometown of Arlington, New Jersey. These two obstacles would have made other people give up on their dream. But he was no different. His dream was no ordinary dream. So instead of taking the passenger train to Mr. Edison's hometown of Orange, he decided to take a freight train instead. (He could afford to pay the driver a small tip to get on the freight train.) In fact, riding in a freight train was very cramped. He could not see anything around him, so he was called a "blind train." But his burning desire pushed him to endure the hardship and ride the freight train.
So he was able to visit Mr. Edison's laboratory and report that he had come to work with this world-famous inventor. Mr. Edison revealed a few years later how he and Mr. Edison first met. Let's take a look at his statement.
“He stood before me, looking like a vagabond, but there was something about his face that told me he had come here with a purpose. I have had many years of experience dealing with people, so I have learned to read faces, so I gave him the opportunity he asked for. I also noticed that if he set his mind to something, he would persevere until he succeeded. Later, when I watched his actions, I saw that my observation was not wrong.”
Even Edison could say that, so I don't think I need to tell you how fiery the desire on Berners-Lee's face was.
But initially, Barnes did not reach the level of Edison's partner. He was assigned to work as an assistant in Edison's office with a meager salary. This task was not important to Edison, but to Barnes it was the most important task. Based on this task, he could rise to the position of Edison's "partner" that he had hoped for.
For months, Barnes's main goal had not yet been realized. But a very important decision had been made in Barnes' mind: he would wait and see until he had achieved his goal of becoming Edison's partner.
There is a saying among psychologists: “When a person is ready to accept something, the appearance of being able to accept it appears.” Barnes was able to make such a bold decision because he would have the opportunity to work with Edison. In fact, his burning desire did not slow down in any way.
If it were anyone else in Barnes' place, they might have thought, "I came here to work with Edison, and now I'm being paid a pittance and doing nothing more than an office assistant. I need to find a better paying job. I'm going to quit this job as soon as I find one."
He didn't think so. He could think as he really was. "In fact, my level and Mr. Edison's level are as far apart as heaven and earth. I should be grateful that he even gave me the job of assistant. If he refuses to accept me at all, I will be like a dog who came with me on the freight train because I don't even have the money to return home. So I will just cling to this opportunity and wait for the right opportunity."
