Don't hurt your ears, hurt your feet.
When I give a speech, I will not include Saya U Maung Maung Gyi among the people I will be speaking to. He is not a professor. "You and I" is a great compliment.
I mean, I'm wondering if he's the same age as me, or if he's older than me. Looking at the picture, he's older. (Laughter)
When I speak, I will speak as a teacher teaches students, and as an uncle speaks to nephews and nieces, so please be gentle with your tongue and not with your ears.
Also, I had to reread my own post in a hurry to say what I intended to say here.
. What I found when I read and prepared was... there was so much to write and talk about. I don't have time to talk about the characters in the short story collection while I'm planning now. (Showing the short story collection) I won't talk about him. I brought this because I forgot. In the future, I want to talk about the characters in the short stories in the short story collection.
What I want to say today is that we write. We write novels. Even though I write novels like this, I have never read a book called How to Write a Novel. I only write novels. I have never taken a course on how to become a novelist. So how do you become a writer? I read what others have written. I read Burmese novels. I read English novels. I read and memorized. I memorized and then I wrote with passion. Then I wrote. It became short novels. It became long novels. Then I became this novelist that you call a great teacher.
So... What will I do today? When I write about the reality that works in practice, I write novels like this.. What is important, what features are needed then, and then I have concepts. From reality, I have become a concept. So I have become a practice. I have written a novel that is practical. I have developed a concept. I have developed a theory. I have developed it and now I present it. I want you to think like that.
Which is most important?
So when I look back at it from that perspective, I find out what is most important. When writing a novel, I find that character development is the most important thing. As the saying goes, experience tells us, if we look at it from experience, we have to make the characters fleshed out, fleshed out, and animated.
I have learned that portraying the character of a character is an important aspect of fiction, and of the art of writing fiction. Keep that in mind.
Another thing is that when writing a novel, we also look at the reason for writing. The reason for writing is called theme in English. Usually, theme is quite understandable. Many scholars have translated this word. Before we find a solution (laughter), some people say it is purpose, and some say it is nonsense. Here, I would like to say that in the context of a novel, it is the reason. For example, the first novel I wrote when I was young, “Tek Phong Gyi,” which was written in 1936 (36, so 33 years ago), was also my first novel. If we were talking about that novel, the reason for writing was that there were impurities in the world of monks, the religious world, the world of the Sangha, and within the religion. Some monks were doing things that they shouldn’t do, things that were not in accordance with the rules and regulations. I wanted to present these things to the public. I wanted to present this to the public. At that time, I really believed in purifying the religion. What good monks I wanted to see. I wanted to see. At that time, Buddhism was a religion with the same desire. Now, they can't afford to lose their religion. (Laughter) I'm just talking. I don't want to talk too much. So the reason for writing that novel is... as I said earlier, I want to purify the religion.
Student boycott
Then in 1937, I wrote another novel. It was “The Student Strike,” and that was in 1935 and 1936. There, anti-imperialist sentiments and national liberation sentiments were strongly present in the world of university students. They were protesting against slavery. From there, a big strike broke out. The reason I want to present is this. So, in other words, to fight against imperialism and to destroy colonial education... This is the main reason for writing this novel. There must be that reason.
The demon of the era
In the same way, around 1940, I wrote another novel. This is called... 'The Devil of the Age'. What I wanted to highlight was... venereal disease, a disease that was most prevalent among young people at that time. I acted out the story of this disease and wrote about the reason why you young people should not go into this world. You young people should not go into the world of prostitution. I can write about what I have personally experienced. (Laughter)
The road is already open.
I started writing novels like that. I wrote another novel after the next war.
"The Road Has Begun" ... a poem written in 1949.
The purpose of this monument is to commemorate the leaders of the Burma Liberation Front and General Aung San after the fascist Japanese were expelled in 1947.
The reason for this is that I am exposing the political movement that took place after the coup, the political movement that took place during that period until the fall of General Aung San in 1947, and the struggle for national liberation. That is why I wrote this.
After that, it became known
