Domestic cats and wild cats like tigers and lions have many similarities. They like to hunt. They live alone and are quiet. They play. For example, domestic cats
A cat likes to be alone on a windowsill. But a lion would prefer to be alone under a tree in the forest. On a separate piece of paper, write down the different lifestyles of domestic cats and wild cats.
Do you love cats?
There are many people who love cats. In America, cats are the most popular pet, with dogs coming in second place.
Cats are great friends. Most domestic cats are friendly, playful, and cuddly.
How big is the biggest cat?
A domestic cat has been recorded weighing as much as forty-seven pounds. That's huge. It weighs about the same as a six-year-old child.
But most domestic cats are much smaller than the cats mentioned earlier. They weigh only about six to eight pounds.
How much does your cat weigh? I'll tell you how to find out. Get on the scale and weigh yourself. Then put your cat on the scale and weigh yourself again. Subtract the number you got the first time from the number you got the second time. Now you know the weight of your cat.
Newborn kittens
How small is it?
A newborn kitten is so small that it can be held in the palm of your hand. It weighs only four or five ounces.
Kittens cannot see or hear when they are born.
A kitten's eyes open about a week or so after birth. They are weaned and can leave their mother when they are eight to twelve weeks old.
By the time a kitten is about six months old, it can hunt and fend for itself.
