It is not appropriate to criticize religious sects.
On the 13th day of the waning moon of Tagu (12-4-61), a disciple of one of my religious friends, Maha Si Sayadaw, came to my house holding a newspaper. My friend was a fair-skinned man and his face was red from embarrassment. He held the newspaper close to my face and asked, “Sir, have you read this commentary?” I looked at the newspaper he showed me and realized that it was a mirror newspaper, and at once I realized why my friend was blushing. Because I have already read Po Gyi Maung's criticism in the Kyaymon newspaper's `Sa Kyaymon' section about the criticism of Maha Si Sayadaw's arrogant and arrogant way and my book Dittha Dittha Matti written by U Dhammawadi in the book called Arya Bongo-Nyan Sae Kyin. I have not read U Dhammawadi's book yet, but I have read Po Gyi Maung's excerpts that he accuses Maha Si Sayadaw of being arrogant and arrogant in a subtle way and that he is a false view, an enemy of the Dhamma, and a danger to the Dhamma. From that moment on, I remembered that he had written a beautiful sketch. This friend was not only a disciple of Maha Si Sayadaw, but he was also so arrogant that he could not be compared to any other disciple in the respect he showed to the Sayadaw, but I was not surprised that his face was red. His Sayadaw The person who dares to criticize is a person, and if I meet him face to face, I cannot guarantee that I will not touch him. He is such a strong believer in the Sayadaw. In the excerpt from Po Gyi Maung, U Dhammawadi was not very harsh about my book Dittha Dittha Matthi, saying that this practice is not for other people, but is written as a sermon for the two Bāhiyas and Malukyaputtas.
Noob.. “I've read it too, the writing is pretty rough.”
Friend.. “How can you write about me? I can’t stand the way you write about Sayadaw.”
Noob.. “What the hell, why and how should I write about myself?”
Friend.. “You are a person.”
Noob. . “Oh, let people write, but not monks? Don’t discriminate like that. Even though people are individuals, if you write about the Dhamma and try to write from your own experience, it’s not right to criticize the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw. I also feel bad for the way he writes about the Sayadaw. But you are different from other monks, so I don’t want to be your friend anymore.”
Friend.. “Aren’t you also my son?”
Noob. . “Of course, I’m on your side. I don’t want to be on your side. Respect the Master whenever you want, respect him, and don’t belittle him whenever people say so.”
Friend. . “I withdraw my request. Look, it is a threat to the Dhamma. It is a threat to my teacher who guided me to the path of enlightenment. Is that right? If he wants to do the scriptures, he can do them himself. Why should he criticize the teacher?”
Noob.. “I can’t stand criticism of my teacher’s method, okay?”
Friend.. “Where will you be able to bear it?”
Noob. "Let me present my opinion on criticizing someone's writing. Would you listen?"
Friend.. “I am very angry and resentful. Tell me, I will listen.”
Noob.. “The idea of writing your own letter and not criticizing others’ letters is a concept of people who are still in the habit of thinking.”
Friend.. “What is the use of criticizing other people’s writing?”
Noob.. “I’ll leave the criticism of the articles written about this and that for now. It doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong. However, if you think I’m criticizing the methods that are being used to guide you to success, I agree with it.”
Friend.. “Can an uneducated person criticize the methods of a monk who is as good as the sun and moon?”
Noob. . “Let him present what he wants to present, let the reader read it. People like it and people don't like it. If there are no readers, his book will be buried.”
Friend.. “People don’t listen, do they?”
Noob. . “I can’t stand people who are lying. Where is the golden mind that can decide whether this book is right or wrong and should not be published because it is misleading people?”
Friend.. “That’s hard to say.”
Noob.. “Don’t be hard on yourself. If it’s not obscene literature, he should be allowed to express his ideas.”
Friend.. “So the teacher supports U Dhammawadi’s book.”
Noob. . “I don’t mean to endorse his book. I just mean that if someone wants to criticize a practice called Magrak Pholpak, they should be allowed to do so. However, I have to say that U Dhammawade’s criticism is a bit too harsh.”
Friend. . “It’s too much. It’s dangerous. It’s heresy. It’s false views. It’s a dirty trick. It’s still good.”
Noob. . “It’s true that the words are harsh. I haven’t read his book yet, so I can’t say how many good reasons there are to say that. The words he uses are just plain bad.”
Friend.. “I want to compete with this monk and myself, leaving aside the great monk.”
Noob. . “You are saying that you don’t want to be touched by your own teacher. If it’s true, can you prove it with a strong argument?”
Friend.. “You can refuse.”
Noob.. “Have you read his book?”
Friend.. “I haven't read it, and I don't want to read it.”
Noob.. "How is this possible? If you deny him, then read his book first."
Friend.. “I can deny what he wrote.”
Noob. . “That’s not the case. However, there is one flaw I see in U Dhammawadee’s book.
Friend.. “You see only one thing. I see everything as sin.”
Noob. . “You can see it without reading it?” Friend. . “It’s a free book, right?”
Noob. . “You say that a book that criticizes the monk is a useless book, and a person who criticizes him is a useless person, right?”
Friend. . “Yes, of course. Like my teacher.” Noob. . “You are very personal.”
Friend. . “I want to say that. For me, the greatest is the greatest. Let me tell you what is the fault that I see in U Dhammawadi’s book.”
Nop. . “The fault I see is that even though there is something to criticize, we should avoid harsh words. For example, he said that he was a false view. Instead of using harsh words like this, we should point out how the Mahasi Sayadaw’s practice is inconsistent with Buddhism, and how it is wrong, wrong, and in what way it is against Buddhism. If we can point out harsh names like false view, false ideology, or a threat to the Dharma, it is like trying to provoke the other party. In our Myanmar, we can criticize literature, a science, or the Dharma.
