U Nyi Pu (1900)

(First Myanmar movie star)

U Nyi Pu was born on September 12, 1900, the second son of U Ba Nyunt and Amida Nyein Shin. He moved to Yangon, his hometown, with his family in Myanmar.

While studying at the government high school, he actively participated in the creation and production of Burmese films. He helped the father of film, U Ohn Maung, with his people, money, and wisdom.

He was the first Burmese film actor to wear makeup and act in front of the camera, and the third to appear in the film “Taw Myaing Son Ka Luam Aung Phan, Maung Bhatay in 1923... and also popularized the film “Bhatay San Tauk”.

He was the first actor to work as a director in the film "Taw Myaing Sun" and introduced the actor U Shwe Yo, who can be called a "capture actor". He was interested in photography since his student days. He is skilled in film photography and is also skilled in sound recording, recording, editing, and painting. He is well-versed in the belief that "you should repair the equipment you use yourself".

He is also very skilled in writing scripts and directing. U Nyi Pu, who always shares his knowledge with others, has many film students in the film industry.

He was skilled in various photographic tricks, special effects, and special photographic effects (Scott Motion). He was able to use the special photographic effect of still images from films (Ate Cal Printer) in a Burmese style, even though he did not have a film printer.

Now... this car-based machine is being tested and developed using domestic equipment.

U Nyi Pu acted as an actor... "Love and Love" (1920), "Kye Taw Thu Manu" (1921), "Taw Myaing Son Ka Luam Aung Phan" (1923), "Tik Khaing Lone Shwe" (1924), "Mhoing Wai Wai" (1925), "Tak Nyunt Paung" (1933), and as an actor and director... "Su Htoo Pan" (1929), "Swe Hnin Si" (1931), and "Japant Yin Thway" (1935).

As a director... “The Leopard” 1923, “ The Rattlesnake” 1925, “The Golden Lion” 1926, “The Two Sides” 1927,The Aye Yin1927,The Queen of Myaing” 1926, “The Love of Blood” 1931, “The Love of Water” 1935, “The Water of Peace” 1954.

As a supervising director, he directed films such as "Than Khamauk" (1935), "San Ray Yin" (1936), "Chit Lu Yao" (1938) (voiceover), "My Lover's Heart" (1955), "Chit Thansara" (1957), "528" (1958), "Nang Htet Ka Pan Ti Khet" (1963), "Ma Dham So Ain" (1965), "Thaman Gyar" (1970) ...

U Nyi Pu actively participated in various organizations for the benefit of the film industry. During the pre-war period, he was a member of the Myanmar Film Association, the Myanmar Film and Theatre Association, the Film Council, and served as its chairman from 1968 to 1975, as well as the 21-member Film Council Organizing Committee and Advisory Board.

Myanmar cinema has been around since (1920) and has now been (75) years old. All the film scholars have been diligently and diligently developing their film arts. At the same time, they have been able to practically teach and disseminate the knowledge they have acquired within their own communities, and in the future, the Ministry of Information, the film industry, and (formerly the Film Council and now the Film Association) have been able to open and teach systematic courses.

The Myanmar Film Association Executive Committee is working in all directions to develop the film industry, and film art development is also a part of this program. In accordance with this program, the Myanmar Film Association's press officers and the film magazine editorial team were given the responsibility of publishing this book.

This book, “The Words of the Great Filmmakers,” is a compilation of lessons taught in film courses. It is intended to be a source of knowledge and reference for film researchers, film enthusiasts, and new generations of film enthusiasts. Special thanks to Captain Ohn Shwe (Army Training Film) who collected and compiled the lessons, writer and director U Hla Aung who helped prepare the manuscript, and Dagon Myint Soe (U Myint Soe, retired director, film industry) who edited the manuscript.
