Why don't you think?

A few years ago, a man was driving in the winter. He stopped at a gas station to fill up. But he couldn't open the gas tank of his car. There was ice on the tank cap. So he heated it with a lighter to melt the ice. The result was a disaster. First, his car caught fire. Then the entire gas station burned down.

When I asked the driver why he did that, he replied, "I didn't think about it."

His mistake was simple. Clear. Not so complicated as to be difficult to understand. Even though we don't have to face the same dire consequences as the driver's mistake, we have made the same calculated mistakes.

However, “I didn’t think about it” is not a perfect excuse. Because a person can live without thinking. You will find that it is not easy to live without thinking. If the driver were to give a more accurate answer, he would just say “I didn’t think about it carefully.”

The driver thought about it. He thought about the ice on the gas tank lid and the heat from the lighter. But the driver already knew what would happen if the gas in the tank came into contact with the heat from the lighter. He had enough knowledge. He just didn't use the knowledge he had to make good use of it.

Human error is a daily occurrence in human life. The main reason for this is that if we focus on the tasks we have to do and do them with all our might, can we say that wrong thoughts and misconceptions will disappear?

It's impossible. It's impossible.

We have a huge amount of work to do, like ten billion people. It is impossible to solve all these problems at the same time. We give a certain amount of time to think about a problem. We solve it. We allocate both time and thinking. Yet it is not easy to concentrate on one thing. Distractions and interruptions are inevitable.

Think of humans as computers. Computers store information in their brains. They use all the information they can get from their brains to answer questions that are asked of them without any interruptions. And they do so very quickly. They don't get tired. The human brain can't match that. And compared to a computer brain, the human brain has many shortcomings and weaknesses.

However, there are counter-intuitive solutions to these weaknesses. These weaknesses are what make our individual personalities different. They give our lives different colors and depths. Not only that, but these weaknesses also help us solve problems, create, and come up with new ideas.

In fact, humans have many advantages because they don't think like computers. If we recognize and embrace this difference, we can build on our strengths and build on our weaknesses. And if we also critically examine our weaknesses, we will be able to reduce or eliminate them.

Thinking is a natural process that happens automatically, whether we want to do it or not.

The question to ask is whether we can control thinking or not. In other words, can we deliberately modify a person's thinking to improve its quality?

To answer this question, let's look at the functions of the brain. The functions of the brain are:

1. The brain is the center of nerves and interprets sensory stimuli.

2. The brain coordinates and controls bodily movements.

3. The brain trains and develops emotional, thought, and memory processes.

In the area of sensory perception, the brain acts automatically. It acts immediately. It does not require conscious effort. Similarly, in controlling bodily movements, only a minimal amount of conscious effort is required.

For example, take breathing. Breathing is a natural activity that is essential for our survival and development. But we don’t have to think about it. And there is no set standard for breathing. Most people breathe deeply. Some don’t. A few people learn to breathe systematically. Athletes and singers are systematic breathers. They experience great benefits from this systematic breathing. Similarly, people who breathe systematically to relieve stress and fatigue also experience benefits.

Similarly, there are many differences in thinking. We may notice that our own thinking patterns have changed. We can also observe that the thinking abilities of others have changed significantly. Therefore, it can be said that we can practice and improve our thinking skills. However, people pay little attention to this topic.

One of the many purposes of thinking is to avoid thinking. More specifically, to avoid making the deliberate effort to think.

Let me give you an example. Consider a novice driver. Suppose he is sitting in the driver's seat of a car for the first time. He is excited as he reviews the information he has learned. He must apply that information to his driving. He must be quick and agile in his application. He must be precise and accurate. He must be able to perform actions simultaneously if necessary. He must be worried about these things.

In contrast, consider a seasoned driver. He also does the same job as a driver who learned to drive. But he has less conscious effort to drive. Or he doesn’t have to exert any conscious effort. His driving is more relaxed. He can still listen to the radio while driving. He can also turn around and talk to the other people in the car every now and then. That means he doesn’t have to work so hard to drive smoothly. His brain isn’t crammed with information that he’s been storing for driving. He still has room in his brain to listen to the radio and chat with his fellow passengers.

The difference is that the experienced driver has had time to think about the things that are necessary to drive a car. When he has thought about those things, he has them organized and laid out in his mind. When he is actually driving, he does not have to think about them again. He does not have to think about what he is going to do once he is in the car.

Similarly, as you read this book, organize and organize the thinking methods suggested in this book. Then you will be able to apply these methods without much effort.

By using this method, you will avoid unnecessary mistakes, prevent mental blocks, and find that you can improve your thinking skills, which will help you solve problems and generate new ideas.
