Like most people in the world, I grew up with the worldview that "life is a process of taking." The idea that "life is a process of giving and receiving" came to me by accident.
One night. Twenty years ago, I was lying wide-eyed on the couch of the Twentieth Century Limited, a train that was traveling from Chicago to New York. As I lay there, I thought to myself, "Where will the two trains, the Eastbound and the Westbound, meet tonight?"
“This idea could make an interesting subject for an advertisement for the New York Central Railroad,” I said to myself. That night I fell asleep, thinking quietly, “Where will the centuries cross?”
The next morning I wrote a letter about the idea and sent it to the New York Central Railroad Company in good faith. I asked for no credit for the idea. A few days later I received a polite acknowledgement of receipt. The letter contained the following message: Two Century trains would meet near Athol Springs, a small town nine miles west of Buffalo.
A few months later, I received a second letter. The letter stated that the idea of “Where do the centuries cross?” would be used in a calendar to be published by the New York Central Company for 1924. The photograph in that calendar showed a century-old train heading straight towards the viewer in the dark, and another century-old train, with lights on in the engine room, passing each other at a bend.
The picture is a colorful and nostalgic railway scene.
That summer I traveled a lot. In my home country and in Europe, I saw my century calendar hanging in every train station and hotel room I visited. Every time I saw it, I was delighted and delighted.
In fact, this world is a world full of desires and a world that is constantly chasing after possessions. In such a disgusting and boring world, how rare is it to have a little bit of joy? If so, can such a little joy not be measured in money? Where will this important enlightenment pass in the centuries mentioned above?
So I put the act of giving into practice. I discovered that it was a joyful and fulfilling act. From that time on, my life was filled with exciting adventures. I also found that I had a tidal wave of new friends.
I also realized that we must practice and cultivate effective giving.
Just as there is a difference between successful receiving and effective giving. Opportunities to reap the fruits of happiness and joy come and go. They are fleeting, fleeting, and fleeting. So you must act quickly, or else the opportunities will elude you. But the more you experience them, the more you will crave them.
I woke up one day with the realization that I was truly a collector. The things I collect are things that bring me joy and excitement. It’s a fascinating hobby. Just like collecting other things, you’re always looking for new experiences to add to your collection of joys. However, unlike other forms of collecting, you don’t need a big closet or a big safe to store your treasures. You don’t have to constantly be on the move to find more things to collect. No matter where you are, in what area you’re in… you just need to look around you, your surroundings. You just need to find opportunities to do your giving.
Let me suggest that giving is a very exciting and fulfilling hobby. In fact, if you try to practice giving effectively, I guarantee you will have a much happier life. So, let's start practicing it now.
