Translator's note

This book, The Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, is one of the Arabian Nights, a collection of Arabian tales.

It is said that these stories were compiled and written in the 10th century.

Of these, 264 were stories passed down orally by ancient Arab elders, and later generations added similar stories to their writings.

It is said that the stories we read today were not available until 1450. This story was translated into English by Sir Richard Chattan.

Literary records indicate that they were translated from English to Burmese around the second half of the 20th century.

Myanmar readers first learned about it as Pathi stories.

Later, Thakin Ba Thaung translated it into Burmese under the title One Thousand and One Night Stories.

Readers love to read.

This book is from Fanny Blyton's Retold Series. I love English.

I have chosen to translate this book for the benefit of young people who are still pursuing their studies.

Even in England, they try to get English children to read more.

Interesting books are divided into various stages, so that children of all ages can read them. They are divided into six (6) stages and arranged step by step like stairs, which help children learn to read.

If they can plan for their country and their people, it is our responsibility to plan for our country and our people.

It is because of this belief that I am translating bilingual English-Burmese books.

If reading this book can benefit even a little young people who are still learning English... I must say that it was worth translating.

With infinite kindness

The Adventures 0 f Sindbad the Sailor

The Strange Little Island

Let me tell you my story. I am Sindo a sailor whose adventures will fill you amazement, for each of the six voyages I have taken have been full of marvels of many kinds

The Adventures of Sailor Elephant

A strange incident happened to me when I was a child...

Let me tell you about the story.

I am a sailor.

My strange and exciting adventures... My daring actions will be full of surprises for you.

Because each of the six cruises I've taken has been filled with... amazing... incredible things.

My father died when I was young, and left me a lot of wealth. Most of this I spent foolishly. Then, when I was almost in poverty, I took the advice of some friends and went to sea. I took with me some goods which I hoped to sell at a profit when we touched at a port.

l embarked at Balsora, a port on the Persian Gulf. We set sail, and in due course arrived at several islands, where we sold or changed our goods. Then one day the w dropped, and we lay becalmed near a little land which was almost level with the surface of the water.

When I was young, my father died. He left me a large fortune. I squandered most of it recklessly. Then, having squandered what little I had... I was about to become poor... I followed the advice of some friends and went to sea. When I landed at a certain port, I took some goods that would bring me a great profit if sold.

I boarded the ship in Balsor, a port city on the Persian Gulf. We set sail, and it was time to leave.

And.. according to his plan... we reached many islands, where we sold our goods... and exchanged goods. Then... one day the wind died down (the wind slowed down so that we could not sail) -

So we... we can't sail because there's no wind...

Near an island...

The island is almost level with the surface of the water, and it just floats on the water.

It looked like a smooth, green meadow, and some of us resolved to land upon it, and stretch our legs.

We had not been on the curious little island very long before it suddenly began to quake and tremble. Those on board the ship saw this, and shouted to us to beware-for we were on no island, but on the back of a huge whale!

Some jumped into the boat nearby, and others swam to the ship. When the whale suddenly dived, I was the only person left on its back.

It's like a small, flat, green meadow.

So... some of us decided to go up to that island and stretch our legs.

Not long after we arrived on the island, the island suddenly shook and shook. The rest of the people on the ship saw this happen,

So... they shouted to us to be careful.

Because... we're not on an island, we're on the back of a very large whale.

Some people jumped into a nearby boat, while others swam across to the ship.

When the whale suddenly dives into the water...

"The only person left on his back is me..."
