The idea of poverty and wealth
Let's say you are asked the question, "Do you want to be poor or rich?" Everyone will give you the same answer. No one will say they want to be poor. Everyone will say they want to be rich. Of all the people in the world who are trying, no one is trying with the intention of becoming poor one day. Only those who are trying with the intention of becoming rich are trying.
But living a life that is too poor, or too rich, makes being human seem worthless and meaningless.
There is a book by the American writer Jack London. It is called “The People of the Abyss”. It is a book about people from a deep abyss. It has even been translated into Burmese. When Jack London takes the lowest class of workers to a restaurant and allows them to eat whatever they want, they happily order bread and strong coffee. They don’t order anything else. They never eat. They are so poor that they don’t even want to be given money and eat whatever they want, even if they don’t know what the best food and drink in the world are.
So, how rich is that? The great writer Thaw Ta Swe once wrote about Moe Kot Mya Maung, a ruby tycoon from Moe Kot. He even wrote about it under the title “The One Who Spends Money Like the Wind.” He didn’t spend it like water. He was still drawing water. He spent it like the wind. He spent it as he wanted, without having to work hard or do anything. He ate as he liked, went as he liked, listened as he liked, spent as he liked, spent as he liked, and did as he liked. One day, Thaw Ta Swe cried in front of Saya Thaw Ta Swe. Because Saya Thaw Ta Swe’s life had meaning. He had no meaning. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t even think about how he would live if it had meaning. He was sad and cried and cried. That’s how it is, even though he was rich and nothing. According to a 2017 conference in Switzerland, the wealth of the world's 3.6 billion poor people is equal to that of the world's eight richest people. I wonder if those eight richest people are happy and content with their lives. Life is fun with the best cars, the best watches, the best whiskey, the best mansions, etc.
I don't like being too poor, and I don't like being too rich either.
I prefer the so-called middle class. The middle class is what makes the world better.
The very poor and the very rich cannot read. They cannot read. They cannot enjoy music. They cannot enjoy it. They cannot enjoy good movies, good plays, good paintings. They cannot watch them. Or they do not have time to watch them. In activities like education and politics, the very poor and the very rich have been able to do very well for many years.
Generally speaking, it was the middle class that made the world prosperous.
Many people are calling him middle class.
Those who earn between two and four dollars a day are called the lower middle class. Those who earn between four and ten dollars a day are called the middle class. Those who earn between ten and twenty dollars a day are called the upper middle class .
There are those who say that the middle class is someone who earns between $470 and $920 a month and has a TV, VCD, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, and credit cards.
Anyway, I want to be middle class. Not too poor, not too rich, I just want a life where I can read a little, listen to a little music, watch a little movie, eat decent food, have a car, and live a normal life.
What kind of life would you like to have? A life where everything you touch turns to gold? A life where you can interact with people and live happily ever after. What is certain is that no one would aspire to a life of extreme poverty.
