Chapter (1)

The lobby of the Emperor Hotel in Rixi is dirty due to lack of maintenance. The name Emperor also does not match the current status of the hotel. The name seems to be a joke.

Most of the people in the living room are in keeping with the old, worn-out living room. Most of them are elderly people who are depressed and bored with their current lives.

Behind the liquor counter, the bartender was wiping away broken glass with a dirty napkin.

In the quiet living room, a group of people were chatting. Six people were sitting around a table near the main entrance. Three were sitting on a long bench with their backs to the wall. Among the three, the person in the middle stood out. He was tall, thin, and tanned, about fifty years old, with silver hair and a sharp face. He was wearing the uniform of a colonel in the United States Cavalry.

The colonel stared with a disapproving expression at a man standing across the table. He was tall, strong, and had a mustache as straight as a matchstick. His uniform was black, and the marshal's badge on his chest was shining brightly. The marshal

"Colonel Leymont is right, but in this situation..."

Colonel Clairmont's voice came out clear and crisp.

"Discipline is discipline, my people, military matters are military matters. Civilians are civilian matters. I'm sorry this matter is not possible, Chief of Police." . . . .

"Nathan Pierce"

"This train is for military personnel only, no civilians will be allowed on board except those who have been granted special permission from Washington."

The police chief nodded.

"But shouldn't we all be people serving the Union Government?"

“If the military is to be defined specifically, it has nothing to do with it, is that clear?”

"it is clear"

But the police chief's mind was not completely clear. He looked at the other five people sitting around the table. One was a young woman, the other four were civilians. He looked intently at Police Chief Nathan Pierce, a small, handsome man with thinning hair and a bald forehead. His face was always in a state of distress, and he was always tense, as if he couldn't bear the sight of the police chief.

Clairemont replied without hesitation.

"The Venerable Theodore Boddy is the person who has received special permission to travel on this train. Venerable Boddy is the President's personal secretary and cousin, and will be residing in Virginia as a resident of the city."

"What... what did you say?"

Nathan Pierce asked, looking from the priest to Claremont with a surprised expression.

"Is this man crazy? This man will live a long life among the red savages."

The monk replied in a startled tone, licking his lips with his tongue.

"But I hear that the red men kill white people without hesitation when they see them."

"You can't call it a murder, they took a long time to torture me before killing me."

Nathan Pierce looked at the large man next to the priest. The man smiled brightly and said, "Hello, sir." in a loud voice.

"My name is Dr. Edward Molyneux, Chief of Police."

"I think you'll go to Virginia too. There, signing death certificates will be a big job for you," Molyneux replied curtly.

"I'm not the kind of person who would go to such terrible places. In fact, I'm a newly appointed doctor who has been assigned to serve as a doctor at the Hambock Fortress."

Pierce nodded and looked at the other one again. Claremont said in an irritated tone.

"Now, so you don't have to interrogate these people individually, I'll tell you about them."

Clairmont pointed to the man sitting to his right. The man had white hair, mustache, and beard.

"He's the Governor of Nevada, Fairfax, you know."

Nathan Pierce cocked his head and looked at the young woman to Claremont's left with interest. The girl was about half-a-year-old, with a fair face. Her hair was neatly combed and she wore a large, wide-brimmed hat. Her hair was dark. She was wearing a gray coat that matched her hair.

Claremont said. "She is the Governor's niece, Miss Marika Payachai."

"Oh..."

''Claire Mont said sharply.

"He's going to visit his father, the commander in charge of Hambock Fort. Such an opportunity is not uncommon for high-ranking military personnel.

Clairmont pointed to the left again.

"He was Major O'Brien, the governor's aide-de-camp. He was also responsible for communications with the military. Major O'Brien was."

The colonel stopped speaking and looked at Nathan Pierce strangely. Nathan Pierce was staring at the slightly dazed O'Brien. O'Brien looked back at Nathan Pierce and then suddenly jumped up as if in recognition. In an instant, they were both overjoyed, one running towards the other, one grabbing the other's arm in return. One patted the other on the back. The people in the hotel lobby were staring at them in amazement. They had never seen Captain Nathan Pierce look so happy before.

O'Brien seemed particularly happy. . .

"Sergeant Pierce, cool... I remember you immediately when I heard your name. Come on, you were a hero during the Battle of Chattanooga."

"I grew it as long as your beard, Captain."

"Major General"

O'Brien scolded him firmly. And then- ..

"Nathan Pierce is the best scout in the army. The best fighter against the Reds. And the most accurate shooter."

Pierce said firmly.

"You're the one who's the major, aren't you? That day, right?"

The two of them ignored the people in the aisles and walked towards the liquor counter, each holding onto the other's shoulder. When they reached the counter, they gestured to the bartender, ordered a drink, and continued talking in low tones.

The five remaining people at the table fell silent for a moment, and then Marik Faychai spoke again in an indistinct tone.

"That police chief said it's okay if you're not there, what do you mean?"

"They're talking about scouting, fighting red men, shooting, aren't they? But the only jobs this major can do are filling in numbers on forms, being dirty, and telling stories."

Governor Fei Yachai grabbed his niece's forearm with his hand. .

"Oh, my dear, O'Brien is a soldier who won many medals during the war between the South and the North. "He's a great shot. He's my special assistant. He can't defend himself. Well... but when Major O'Brien is around, no one will insult him - no." - Marika looked at O'Brien's large back with a disbelieving face and started to say something. However, O'Brien and Pierce returned to the table, each holding a glass of whiskey, so they couldn't say anything. The two of them began to argue heatedly. Pierce looked annoyed, and Brienne looked apologetic.

Nathan Pierce said.

"Here, O'Brien, this 'Seccohon' is a murderer. He robs trains. He incites wars between the whites and the reds. He sells liquor and guns to the reds."

O'Brien nodded again. "Yes, this is the most worthy of the gallows."

"But he can only be taken into custody if he is caught by a law enforcement officer. And what can I do, you law enforcement officers? I have him in custody at Hambock Fort. My wish is for you to come with me on the train and bring him back on the next train."

"Here, Nathan, you heard what the Colonel said, too, Oss."

O'Brien turned to Claremont uncomfortably and said again.
