What is TOEFL iBT?

(What is TOEFL iBT?)

TOEFL stands for The Test of English as a Foreign Language . It is a standardized test designed to measure a person's ability to understand and use English. Colleges, universities, and professional licensing organizations in the United States use TOEFL scores as part of the admissions process.

The TOEFL Test is administered and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). ETS is a private, non-profit company based in Princeton, New Jersey. Previously, the TOEFL Test tested how well you knew vocabulary and grammar. Now, the new TOEFL iBT Test has been introduced.

Features of TOEFL iBT

(1) The TOEFL iBT measures your ability to speak English. It also measures your ability to understand English. Half of the test's total score is based on Reading and Listening skills. It measures how well you understand English. The other half is based on Speaking and Writing skills. It measures how well you can express yourself using English.

(2) TOEFL iBT measures how well you can integrate your English language skills. The Test & Speaking and Writing Sections contain many integrated tasks or questions . The test taker must read and listen to the questions. Then, based on what you have read and listened to, you must speak or write . This is the nature of integrated questions.

(3) In the TOEFL iBT, the Structure Section wulacan lagapen English Grammar Knowledge asked in the Paper Base is measured in the Skills Sections of the Test. For example, when taking the Speaking Test , you must apply the Rules of English Grammar correctly.

(4) TOEFL iBT uses more authentic language in the Reading and Listening Passages . For example, in the Listening Section, speakers in a conversation can interrupt each other. This is like two people talking naturally in a conversation.

(5) The TOEFL iBT allows note-taking. You can take notes during each test section.

TOEFL iBT Scores

The score for each section is on a scale of 0 to 30. The Total Test Score is 0 to 120 .

Test Section

The TOEFL iBT has four test sections.

  1. Speaking Section
  2. Writing Section
  3. Listening Section
  4. Reading Section

Speaking Section

The Speaking Section consists of six tasks. Listen to the instructions regarding the question and read the task. Two of the tasks consist of a Reading Passage, a Conversation (or) Lecture . The other two consist of a Conversation ( or) Lecture only. You will have 40 ( or) 60 secs to answer each task .

In the Speaking Section, Task 1 and Task 2 are Independent Speaking Tests. The test taker must respond to a short prompt on a familiar topic. Tasks 3 to 6 are Integrated Skills Tasks .

First you read and listen. Then you have to answer (speak) about what you read and heard.

You can take notes as you read and listen. Use your notes to respond. You should be able to speak clearly and concisely. You should be able to synthesize and synthesize what you have read and heard.

Task 1: Describing Something from your own Experience

You will be required to speak/answer for 45 seconds based on personal experience.

Task 2 : Expression and Supporting an Opinion Based on Personal Experience

( Expressing and supporting an opinion based on personal experience) 45 seconds to speak/answer. You must give and support your opinion based on your personal experience.

Task 3 : Synthesizing and Summarizing Information

( Integrating and summarizing information)

In this task, you will read an announcement. You will listen to a conversation about the announcement . You will have to combine and summarize information from both the reading and listening to answer the question.

You are given 30 seconds to prepare for this response and 60 seconds to answer.

Task 4: Synthesizing and Summarizing Information

( Combining and summarizing information)

You will read and listen to relevant topics. You will have 60 seconds to respond to a question about what you have read and heard.

Task 5 : Summarizing a Conversation and Expressing an Opinion

( Summarizing the conversation and expressing opinions)

You must summarize a conversation in which two people are discussing a problem and give your opinion on the solution to the problem.

Task 6: Summarize a Lecture

For an academic lecture, you must speak for 60 seconds.
