“ Sayadaw, my disciple has come to receive instruction from you. You are a very virtuous and wise monk. I have come because I believe that you will be able to give me good advice and wisdom.
The disciple had spent four years visiting all the powerful Buddhas, pagodas and monasteries in the whole country, and had donated to them. He had already spent all his money. For the meritorious deeds he had done, the disciple had only asked for one reward. That reward was that the disciple and his wife should have a son. But the disciple's prayers had not been fulfilled yet. The disciple had also run out of ideas. That is why he had come to the feet of the monk.
" Long Wan" is a farmer. He is now a little older. He is not very poor. He owns a good house, several acres of first-class fertile land, and a large herd of buffaloes. He also has a small amount of money saved in a savings bank. He is now fifty years old. He has been married for thirty years. He and his wife have only one thing that they are unhappy about. That is, they have not had any children.
They wanted a child, especially a boy. It had become a big obsession for the couple. They had visited every powerful monk and person in the country. They had asked for a son. But the reason had not come. Finally, they went to the monk in their native village, Phra Maha Prasat, to ask for advice.
“ You have traveled all over the country to pray for the fulfillment of your desires, haven’t you? I think you have gone astray. The monastery in your village is a great school where all your ancestors and parents have always practiced the Upasana precepts and given alms. Here, they have been ordained, ordained monks, built temples, tansaungs, and theinzayas, and have continuously practiced the good teachings of the Buddha. I remember. Your father even wore the two-colored robes at my school. You yourself also ordained at my school. You have done more good deeds in this temple, this school, and this temple than in any other place. Why do you not pray for a child at this temple, this temple, and go to other places and beg for it? Why can’t your suffering be relieved at the feet of the golden statue of the Buddha in your school? It is only a short distance from your house to this school. Tomorrow, call your wife and give her some things to donate. "Bring some and come and pray at school. I, the teacher, will also pray for you," he said.
" The words of the monk are true, my lord. Why didn't the disciple have this idea before?"
Long Wan enthusiastically re-applied.
The next morning, Long Wan and his wife, Noit San, arrived at the Phra Maha Prasat Monastery. They brought with them alms, alms bowls to offer to the four precepts and five precepts of the monastery, and candles and incense to offer to the Buddha image.
The couple respectfully knelt before the Buddha image and prayed for the blessing of a son that they had never had before.
Longwan prayed in front of the Buddha for over an hour. Satisfied, he got up and told his wife.
" Woman, my mind is clear. I am at peace. I think our prayers will be answered."
The face of the Buddha is radiant. A face filled with universal love. A face that is free from all forms of evil. A face that is peaceful and serene. A face that is so gentle and smiling. I admire the ancient Thai sculptors. They are the ones who can skillfully carve the Buddha into a beautiful image.
Longwan had seen this great Buddha image more than a hundred times before. Only this time did he feel that this great Buddha was smiling at him.
Soon, Long Wang and Nai San's wish was fulfilled. The reward they had asked for was indeed fulfilled. Less than a year later, Nai San gave birth to Long Wang's son.
The child was very lovely. His skin was as smooth as polished copper. He had a beautiful, graceful figure. The villagers said they had never seen such a child in their lives.
However, this handsome child had a defect. One of his legs was crooked. When he walked, the crooked leg made him look a little awkward.
However, Long Wan and his wife were not happy about this. They believed that their son's beauty could not be hidden by just one leg. They loved their son to the core.
The parents named their son “Boon-Sri,” which means “lucky one.”
When the month of Bhonsri was over, the three sons, father and mother, came to the village temple. Longwan and Wusang laid their son down in front of the Buddha image and stood there.
“ Venerable sir, thanks to the meritorious deeds done by the disciples in this monastery, in this temple, the disciples have now received a son, the one they most desire. Therefore, the disciples have named the young son “Bhonsri”, Venerable sir. When Bhonsri grows up, he must not be ordained as a monk anywhere else except in this monastery where the Venerable sir resides.”
The seasons changed one after another, and the years passed. The little boy Bonsri grew up. He became a strong and healthy young man. Although he walked with one leg broken and limping, he could play badminton as well as other children in elementary school. He could shoot basketball. In addition, he was a good student in his class. He was always first in his class. He was very intelligent.
Until he was ten years old, he had no problems with his legs. He could only convince himself that he was born with one leg.
But later, a ghost entered the boy's mind and disturbed him. His entire life became unstable.
Recently, local newspapers have been featuring the top scorers and top achievers in government exams, along with their photos. Bhonsri, who scored the highest in the nation in the third grade, was featured in the newspaper with his photo.
His classmate, "Aiping", was second only to Bonsri. Therefore, "Aiping" was not mentioned in the newspaper. Then, Aiping became jealous of Bonsri.
He began to find fault with Bonsri and to expose and suppress Bonsri's weaknesses.
" You will do well in the exam. But in the real world, you are a very weak person. Tell me, what use are you with your ugly, flat feet? Meanwhile, your father is planning to do something he shouldn't have done. The whole village is bragging about whether he will make you king next year. He will give you a robe."
