Smile like a sunflower.
When I first saw you, I thought you were so small. You stood alone, alone, among the bushes and grass.
"Isn't there anyone who will take care of you?" I asked, sitting down in front of him, my eyes narrowing.
You didn't say anything back... you just kept your head down, silent.
It's as if I can hear your unyielding heartbeat.
"Time can erase you...you know," I said, but you didn't say anything. You stood tall.
I sighed and left the place. I never thought I would see you again.
But I was wrong... A few months later, I saw you for the second time. I was surprised to see you standing tall. I slid down next to you. You were already close enough to me.
'You're getting stronger,' I said.
You look at the sunlight. You smile without saying anything to me.
And the pride of survival is reflected on their faces.
'That's the brightest smile I've ever seen,' I said.
You shine brighter. There's no arrogance in that smile. It's simple.
'You're alive... Look at your healthy body,' I said, looking at you. | You keep smiling. It's as if you're proving to me the different values of time.
'Time gave birth to you. Time created you. Time will destroy you,' I said calmly.
You keep smiling without regret.
I look up at the place you've been looking at all this time. That place is where the sun shines. The sun is the eye of time.
' No one can keep up with time '
I left those words and left you around dusk.
You are still relentlessly pursuing the sun. I may not understand the belief in you.
You always amaze me. The last time I saw you, you were older than I thought.
"Look...you've never been able to control time, have you?" I said helplessly.
My waist is no longer as firm as it used to be. My whole body is no longer in good shape.
I'm watching you silently.
You held your head up with difficulty. You still looked up at the sun without making a sound. Your eyes filled the house with tears.
At that moment... at that moment... I was shocked... are you smiling...
I could never forget the moment you left, full of satisfaction and charm.
Not long ago, I came back to the place where you lived.
I was amazed when I saw the place where you lived. The place where you were was full of sunflowers. They were shining brightly in the sunlight with a golden glow. They were smiling like you did long ago.
You're right... The limitlessness of life is the best solution for time. Whether we can change it or not, we should seize every second and minute of our lives and do meaningful work for life and for the sake of our brilliance.
Many years later, when I have become successful, I will remember you with gratitude.
There is spring in the tree stump too.
Suddenly, I saw three small white flowers hidden close together inside the leaves.
Those flowers seem to be telling people, ' Even though you've been hurt, even though spring has passed... don't be sad as long as there's hope .'
I wrote this little paragraph while sitting in my house in Bournemouth, England. From where I sat, I could look up and see some trees outside the window. Of these trees, the Beech was my favorite. When I was a child, the branches of that tree were the best seats for me to lean on. I used to lean against the branches of the tree and read Tarzan . I used to dream of living in the forest one day.
The tree was my best friend. I often spent hours in the tree. I had a long rope. I tied one end of the rope to a branch and a small bag to the other end. Before I climbed the tree, I would put a book in the bag, or a piece of uneaten cake, or a book I had to do my homework on. When I got to the tree, I would pull the rope up.
I thought that tree was very dear to me. Every day I called it 'Beech'. I told it my secrets. I would always rub its hard bark with my two plump little hands or with my cheek. I could hear its whispers as the breeze passed through the branches on a summer evening. The leaves swayed and sang... it was a carefully planned performance for me. When the wind blew, I would hold onto his arm tightly and sway with him in the air.
If only our ordinary eyes could see what was under the ground, how wonderful it would be... Every time I roll under a big tree, I wonder how much history is hidden in its trunk and branches, how much the branches stretched out in the wind have endured the rain and wind, and how many songs are in the leaves that cannot be worn out by water. The part of the tree that we see on the ground is only a part of it. Deep down in the ground, its hopes and aspirations are hidden. Maybe it's because I've been in contact with the tree for a long time... I can read the words of the tree. It's as if I understand their world that cannot be separated from people.
The tree, known as the 'Survivor Tree', is a giant Allery Pear tree that survived the 9/11 attacks . It was planted near the 5 World Trade Center in New York City in the 1970s. Its white flowers remind people every year that spring has arrived in a cold, snow-covered world. Like many of the objects in the buildings that were destroyed in the attacks, it was buried between the collapsed towers.
A month later, a worker clearing the rubble found him. At that time, his branches had been severed. A piece of plaster had fallen off his head, leaving him a stump. The remaining branches were charred and the roots were badly damaged. People took him to a New York park and raised him.
The park administrator
He told me... when he first saw this tree stump, he thought there was no way he could revive it. He didn't think that the stump, which had been cut from the burned part, would take root in the soil where it had been replanted.
The 'Survivor Tree' , which has been the subject of mysterious fate, was once again caught in a fire in the spring of 2010. The park manager received a report that a 160-mile-per-hour wind had hit the 'Survivor Tree'. When the manager arrived at the 'Survivor Tree' with three children, some of its roots were already above ground. They performed another surgery on the 'Survivor Tree' with the help of other volunteers, including the children.
At first, they didn't dare to do much work. They just cut off some branches and put the tree on the ground, covering the roots with some soil and some things. They didn't dare to water it directly, but they watered it every day.
