Mahasilavasaka

It was a time when the Buddha Gautama, the teacher of men, gods, and Brahmas, was residing in the beautiful Jetavana monastery in the city of Savatthi.

At that time there was a monk whose diligence had declined. One day the monks of the monastery brought him to the Buddha and told him about his merits. Then the Buddha said,

"Dear monk, why should one become a monk in the Dharma of the Buddha, who can free one from the sufferings of samsara, and yet his diligence and diligence should diminish? The wise men of old have even regained the kingdoms they had lost because of their diligence and diligence."

He said, bringing up the past story. . .

The past tense......

In the land of Varanasi, King Mahasilavas ruled the country. He was a virtuous king. He observed the fasts. He ruled over the people without distinction. He built six almshouses at the four gates of the city, in the middle of the city, and at the palace gate , and he used to give gifts to the poor, the middle , and the rich.

At that time, a minister committed an unforgivable mistake in the palace. When King Maha Thilawa found out about this,

"Hey... Minister Mait You have committed an unforgivable mistake. Therefore, do not stay in my country. Take your children and wives and leave my country as soon as possible." -

He was expelled. Then the minister went to Kosala with his family and entered the presence of the king of Kosala. He was able to please the king and soon became the king's confidant.

One day, a very angry minister conceived a plan to destroy King Mahasila and the kingdom of Varanasi, and so he sent a message to King Kosala.

"Your Majesty, the land of Varanasi is like a honeycomb without bees. The king of Varanasi, Mahasila, is very gentle. Therefore, if you go and conquer it with just a few soldiers, you will easily be able to conquer it."

He submitted a petition. Then King Kolatha said,

"Oh...sir, your native place, Varanasi, is very vast and has many soldiers. Why do you say such an impossible thing? Aren't you a spy?"

If you ask me, the minister will be very soft and gentle.

“I am not lying, O king, if you do not believe what I have told you, then send some men to destroy the outlying areas of Varanasi. If the Varanasi army captures them, and they come before King Mahasila, that king will give them their property and set them free.” He said this. After repeated requests, King Kosala sent some soldiers to destroy the outlying areas of Varanasi. Here, the five-king Varanasi army captured the destroyers and brought them to King Mahasila. The king, without any mistreatment, gently admonished those he captured. He gave them their property. Then, without causing any harm, he sent them back to their homeland.

The Kosala king again destroyed the outlying areas of Varanasi three more times, as before. Then, when he saw that the captured and gentle Mahasilavas had returned unharmed, carrying gifts and belongings, he completely accepted the minister's request. Therefore, the Kosala king gathered his army and himself led the army to conquer the great land of Varanasi.

When the people of Varanasi heard about this, they were shocked. Here, a thousand brave men, who were loyal to King Maha Thilava and had the courage to conquer the entire island of Jambudvipa, came to King Maha Thilava.

"Your Majesty, the enemy of Kosala is coming to invade and conquer Varanasi with his army. Let us go and capture the enemy of Kosala before he reaches the border and present him to you," they all said. Then the very gentle and kind Mahathilava said,

"Brothers, I do not want you to suffer because of me. They have come to my country because they want it, so let them take what they want. Do not go."

He forbade it. The king of Kosala, who had not encountered any obstacles or resistance along the way, was greatly surprised. So he marched as usual and reached the gates of Varanasi. Here: . :

"Will you give up the country or will you fight?"

He sent a message to King Maha Thilawa. King Maha Thilawa heard the message.

"I don't want to fight. Take the country."

"He replied. Here the king of Kosala also conquered the whole country of Varanasi and ruled it. Then he arrested the completely innocent king Mahasilava and a thousand ministers and brought them together to the cemetery. Then he dug a hole as big as his neck and placed King Mahasilava in the middle and surrounded the ministers. After that, he had the earth firmly packed up to his neck. Here the king Mahasilava also tied up the thousand ministers

"Brothers, do not be angry with your enemy, King Kosala. May your love grow."
