The life of Jack London, the author of many thrilling adventure novels, was also full of thrilling adventures.
Jack London was born on January 14, 1876, in San Francisco, USA. He grew up rough and tumble on the streets of the city.
At that time, San Francisco was a very interesting and exciting city. It was founded in 1776. It grew amazingly during the Gold Rush of 1848. Adventurers came from all over the world. The population grew exponentially. The Italian Quarter, the Spanish Quarter, and the Chinatown were formed. Then all the young people of San Francisco tried to protect themselves. They relied on their own fists. There was no student in those days who did not fight with each other.
Jack London was a gunfighter. He loved the sea. He wandered around the docks and worked as a handyman. The sailors forced him to work hard. They forced him to climb the masts at great risk. They took him to sea with them. They taught him the art of seamanship. He received a meager salary from them.
He gave all the money he earned from his hard work to his mother. But in the meantime, Jack London saved up money and bought a second-hand boat. With the money he saved, he painted the boat. He bought sails. He bought a mast. Then he went fishing in the tidal pools.
He began to live on the seashore like this and became friends with oyster robbers. There are good oyster beds in the San Francisco Bay. Many of the oyster beds are privately owned. The robbers steal the oyster beds and sell them on the black market.
Jack London, impressed by the way the oyster pirates were getting by, decides to join their gang. When one of the pirates wants to sell his one-masted ship, Jack London borrows three hundred dollars from his adoptive mother, a Negro woman named "Mummy Ginny." He then buys a boy
At a young age, he owned a sailing ship called the Razzle Dazzle. The name of the ship is the source of the title of this book.
When he joined a pirate crew and plundered oyster beds, his earnings in one night were equal to the three months' wages he had previously earned through hard work.
Despite his young age, Jack London soon became known as the most powerful of the Bay Pirates. He could sail his ship faster than any other, outmaneuver all the other pirates, and compete with and drink against those who were older and more experienced than him.
Because of his willingness to take risks and his skill in navigation, he was able to quickly reach the harbor and sell the oysters he had taken for the best price.
When the police came on his boat, he would flirt with them. He would feed them the best oysters. He would pour them beer.
But he did not compromise with his fellow pirates. There were many who envied his success. They fought with them. But Jack London was able to defend himself well. Once, the pirate who sold him the Razzle Dazzle tried to sink his ship. Then he pointed a gun at the pirate and steered the ship with his feet.
However, his ship was set on fire and sank during a drunken brawl between several pirates. However, Jack London was undeterred and helped pilot another pirate's ship, the Reindeer, whose name is also used in the novel.
He is a pirate, but he is different from them in one way. He is a lover of reading. When he returns from a long voyage, he often locks himself in his room and reads. He especially likes the works of Kipling, Emil Zola, and Bernard Shaw. In addition, the Viking Age by Dusen Lu is one of his favorite books. He considers himself a descendant of the Viking pirates who once ruled the seas.
When he was in school, he refused to sing in a group of students, so his class teacher sent him to the teacher. The teacher then told him that if he didn't want to sing, he would have to write an essay. So he had to write a thousand words every morning.
As Jack London read more, he learned that oyster-robbing would eventually land him in prison, or else an early death.
He worked as a seal hunter in the Far East and a gold miner in the Klondike area, before deciding to make a living as a writer. He wrote over fifty books in fifteen years.
Among them are his famous novels The Sea Wolf, The Wild Call, The Iron Heel, and the now translated Dazzler. Although Dazzler was written for young people, it is loved by both young and old. Based on his childhood, this novel comes to life.
