First word

The most important knowledge in life is the knowledge of the true nature of life. This knowledge should be able to logically answer the following questions:

Why are we born?

How did you come to this present life?

What is the purpose of being alive?

What is the most important task you should do in life?

What is death, and what happens after death? . .

I am a scientist and a religious teacher. I read philosophy, psychology , science, and fiction. But I have not found any coherent answers to the above questions.

I was given the opportunity to study the Abhidhamma, the advanced teachings of the Buddha, in 1980. I passed the three-stage Abhidhamma Ordinary Examination held annually by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 1981, and the three-stage Abhidhamma Honorary Examination in 1983. In both of these examinations, I came first in the whole of Myanmar.

Since 1983, I have been teaching Abhidhamma to university students and the general public to understand it more easily and quickly. As I have been teaching, the answers to the above questions have become clear to me in the light of Abhidhamma.

Indeed, the omniscient Buddha answered these questions of life in his Abhidhamma sermons over 2,500 years ago. I have come to realize that the Abhidhamma is the most valuable knowledge in a lifetime. Therefore, I sincerely feel that everyone should learn the fundamentals of Abhidhamma in order to gain the most benefit from it in their lifetime.

Abhidhamma is a logical, logical, and scientific knowledge that was clearly and directly realized by the Buddha through his omniscience. It is a knowledge that has not only withstood the test of time and the test of time, but is also comparable to modern science and modern psychology. Therefore, Abhidhamma can rightly be considered the supreme science, the supreme psychology, and the supreme philosophy of the Buddha.

" If you study the books "Abhidhamma Sutta Sanghaha" and "Abhidhamma Sutta Sanghaha" written by me in a simple translation, you will understand the basic principles of Abhidhamma. By understanding them, you will be able to understand the true meaning of life, the purpose of life, how to live and die in the best way, and the answers to all life's problems.

Furthermore, the Abhidhamma teachings, which explain the complete separation of mind and body, the cause-and-effect relationships of the Pathissamuppadam, which explains the cycle of life, and the Four Noble Truths, which are true to the universe, can be seen through personal experience in Vipassana meditation, and have been proven to be true by millions of meditators throughout the ages.

Therefore, Abhidhamma is a true, natural, advanced knowledge that has been proven to be true. It is also a knowledge that guides and leads us to the highest level of wisdom, called the path knowledge, which can realize the bliss of eternal peace and happiness, Nibbana.

The eternal message of the Buddha

The Buddha is a man greater than all religions and all dogmas. His message has inspired humanity throughout the ages. His message of peace has never been needed more by the suffering and distracted people of the past than at this time.

Buddhism that can be compared to science

If there is one religion that can match the demands of modern science, it is Buddhism. Albert Einstein, the world's greatest scientist

Psychological science

Buddhism is a religion, a psychological science, and a way of life that embraces all aspects of reason and practicality. Buddhism has satisfied the psychological needs of nearly one-third of the world's population for over 2,500 years. It is a religion that comforts Westerners, encourages self-reliance and consideration for the views of others, and embraces science, religion , philosophy, psychology , ethics, and art. It clearly states that man is the creator of his present life and the creator of his own destiny.

President of the London Pali Bible Society

How this book came about

At the request of the President of the Malaysian Buddhist Association in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I gave a talk in English on “The Abbhdihanna Perspective of Living and Dying” at the Buddha Maha Viharaya, Kuala Lumpur in 2004. I gave a second talk on this topic, with some revisions and additions, in English at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Singapore in 2006.

In Myanmar, I also gave lectures in Yangon and other cities under the titles " Abhidhamma's Perspective on Life " and "Abhidhamma's Perspective on Life."

I first wrote this book, “Living and Dying: A True View of Life,” in English, by extracting and summarizing the original information contained in the above lectures. Then I translated it into Burmese.

I hope that readers of this book will gain a correct perspective on life and benefit greatly from it for their own spiritual development.

May we walk happily and peacefully on the right path of life with the right perspective on life.

The meaning and nature of life

1 Early Philosophers -

Life arises from the four elements

Throughout history, philosophers have wanted to know the true nature of life. They have also wanted to know the fundamental elements that make up the universe.

Early philosophers believed that the universe was made up of only four basic elements: earth, water, fire, and air. They believed that life was made up of these four elements and that at death it was transformed back into these elements. Later scholars realized that this theory was not satisfactory.

2 Leo Tolstoy - Death in Life

There is no meaning other than waiting.

Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian writer and religious philosopher. He won the Nobel Prize for his novel War and Peace . As he grew older, he began to think seriously about life.

“Why are we born? How did we get into this life? Why are we alive? What is the purpose of living? What happens when we die? These are important questions. But I feel like I am falling apart because I cannot find the answers to these questions,” he said.

The proverb compares life to a man being chased by a bear. The man is running for his life. As he runs, he comes across a broken well. As he gets closer, he sees a branch sticking out of the wall of the well. He immediately jumps in and clings to the branch.

The bear was waiting at the well. If he climbed up, he would kill him. When he looked down, a giant python was staring at him with green eyes, and if he fell, it would bite him. ' He had no way out. Once again, two white and two black mice, representing day and night, were tearing at the base of the branch he was clinging to. He could only hold on to the branch for so long. Even if he could hold on, he would fall when the branch broke.

At that moment, her stomach started to feel hungry again. When she saw the honey drops on the leaves of the tree, she was no longer ashamed and ate the honey drops. This is life. Life is like honey drops, and there is only a small amount of pleasure in it.

So Leo Tolstoy felt that life had no meaning except to await death.

3 Christmas Humphrey - The world is

It's like a restaurant.

Chris Hamfree, president of the London Pali Bible Society, likens the world to a restaurant. In a restaurant, people are constantly coming in and people are constantly leaving, just as babies are being born and old people are dying and leaving the world.

4 William Shakespeare - All the world's a stage The world-famous English writer William Shakespeare wrote that all the world's a stage. People take turns on the stage and play their roles. Some play the roles of princes, some the roles of princesses, some the roles of clowns, some the roles of musicians, some the roles of singers, etc.
