Background of the story

During and before war, rival nations often send spies to spy on each other. The things the spies want to know are secret treaties between countries, secrets of the navy, air force, and army, maps of the locations of fortifications and major buildings, and sometimes even information about new and advanced weapons that are being developed in great secrecy.

For example, at the beginning of World War II , we once read in the English newspapers about the young aircraft factory inspector, Ka Darmon, who planned to sell the schematics and photographs of a secret American bomber to the Japanese government for a large sum of money. Such grandiose conspirators were not only in the Western countries such as the United States, England, and Germany, but also gradually spread to our eastern country, Burma.

Japan had sent spies to Burma about 6 months before declaring war on the United States and Britain, and the British government knew about this, so they gave them special protection. In some places, the Japanese even forced the Burmese to choose, and the British even had to fight back with their own weapons. Because no one in Burma knows the Burmese better than the Burmese.

Thus, the shadow of war gradually settled over Yangon, which had previously been filled with happiness and tranquility, and Japan's movements became faster and faster day by day.

One night, around 9 p.m., Sohnthaw Khin Maung Soe and Ma Kyi Kyi returned from the Globe Cinema and were about to cross the street to Ma Kyi Kyi's apartment on Merchant Street. Suddenly, they saw the light in front of the house on the other side of the street, causing Ma Kyi Kyi to scream in fright.

"Come quickly, big brother, I turned off the lights and turned them on to see if I could see."

“I think Kyi forgot when he left.” “No, big brother, I remember for sure.” “I don’t think he was a thief either. If he was a thief, would he have left the light on?”

"Yes, brother, that's why I'm thinking about it." "Look up, you'll see."

Ma Kyi Kyi's room was on the far left of the first floor of a three-story building. The building was accessible from the middle by a staircase to the rooms on the left and right. Khin Maung Soe took Kyi Kyi's hand, opened the door on the bottom floor that had been barely opened, and climbed the central staircase. Without hearing a sound, he arrived in front of Ma Kyi Kyi's room.

He listened from outside the room but couldn't hear anything, so Khin Maung Soe asked Ma Kyi Kyi for the key and opened the door. He saw that the living room light and the back room light were on. As soon as Khin Maung Soe opened the door, he took out his pistol and searched the entire house, from the front room, the bedroom, the dressing room, and the back kitchen, but he couldn't find anything.

Khin Maung Soe did not let Ma Kyi Kyi enter the room, but left her outside. Ma Kyi Kyi went to the owner of the house, Daw Ashabi, downstairs, and talked to her about the benefits, and when she returned to the house, Daw Ashabi came with her.

"Kyee came in."

“Yes”

"Big brother, I didn't find anything. I'm sorry, but let's look in the room where Kyi slept to see if there are any traces of her footsteps."

Ma Kyi Kyi had been waiting outside, but when she entered the room, she was looking through the items in the bedroom, and suddenly she screamed in shock.

“Big brother... big brother... come on” “What, Kyi, you're so scared...” “Look here... big spider.” “Kyi is also scared.”

'On the carpet next to the bed where Ma Ki Kyi was sleeping, he saw a small, shiny golden spider.

"A strange golden spider... big brother" "Yes, it is.."

Khin Maung Soe thought for a long time. Ma Kyi Kyi lay on the single bed, his head turned to the south.

About 6 feet in front of the bed was a large wardrobe for storing clothes. Between the bed and the wardrobe was a long-haired carpet... The dead spider was in the middle of the carpet. Khin Maung Soe placed the dead spider on a piece of paper and examined it under the light of a flashlight with the magnifying glass he had in his bag.

"The golden color is golden, Kyi's milk, but the strange thing is, this is a spider soaked in a solution..."

“Hmm...yes.” “Kyee...look at the boxes under the bed.”

Ma Kyi Kyi opened the uniform box under the bed and saw that the box was still intact. When she turned over the mattress on the bed, she saw that the Bangkok longyi at the foot of the bed, a small gold chain at the head of the bed, and 56 kyats in silver were still there.

"What's wrong... Big brother, do you think someone left this little spider behind?"

Khin Maung Soe didn't reply to Ma Kyi Kyi's words... he looked at the dead spider with a magnifying glass... he knelt down on the hairs on the carpet... his face almost touching the floor, looking intently at it. As he knelt down and looked at it -

"Kiy Lay... before the biscuits came, or at least after, did you ever drag a heavy object across this carpet this afternoon?"

"Oh no... What if I can't draw anything... Big brother, what's the matter..."

"Are you attracted to big cooking ladies..."

"I don't think she'll pull it off either... Daw Suu Kyi doesn't have the chops or the strength."

"I saw the little hairs on the carpet stretching from the door to the closet, Kyi. I haven't touched the closet since I got back..."

“Yes... I haven’t opened it yet.” The wardrobe had a glass door handle, so Khin Maung Soe got a pair of pliers from the stove, then he took the key from Ma Kyi Kyi and opened the wardrobe with the pliers. Ma Kyi Kyi and Ashabi couldn’t understand Khin Maung Soe’s behavior. As soon as the wardrobe door opened, a large, heavy object fell out. It was the body of a large man.

Ma Kyi Kyi hugged Daw Ashabi and said, "Oh my God... please do it, what a shame."

"Lil"

After saying that... While the three sons were in shock, Ma Kyi Kyi was shocked and lost consciousness.

He fell into Daw Ashabi's arms.

She had been working with Khin Maung Soe for a long time, and Ma Kyi Kyi, like a brave girl, had never been afraid of the bloodshed that had taken place in front of her, but when she saw a body suddenly emerge from the closet in her bedroom, where she had been kept with blankets and pillows, she was so frightened that she lost consciousness and went to sleep. If Daw Ashabi had not picked her up and held her, she would have fallen to the floor. Khin Maung Soe and Ma Kyi Kyi, one on each side, lifted her up and laid her on a sofa in the front room, and opened the windows. Daw Ashabi went downstairs and brought a bottle of “Same Lin Sok” and some ice. After they had taken care of her, she soon regained consciousness.

"Big brother... Big brother, what a shame... Big brother, how scary..."

"Don't think about this, Kyi, I'll take care of it after watching it. How are you feeling?"

"Yes, the sun has gone down."

"Kai... stay with the goat, I'll go and report it to the police."

"Don't worry, brother... I'll stay here."

So, leaving Ma Kyi Kyi with her husband in the front room, Khin Maung Soe went to a company in a different building, called the Kyauktada Department, filed a complaint, and then reported the matter to the police chief.

Khin Maung Soe returned to the room and carefully examined the body. The deceased was approximately 40 years old. His skin was medium-skinned, but he had sunburned in some places, as if he had been on a long journey. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and a patchwork quilt. Khin Maung Soe looked through his clothes, but he did not see any signs of injury, so he could not think. He put the golden spider on the table in an envelope and put it in his bag.

Before the police arrived, Khin Maung Soe was already beating and interrogating Daw Ashabi.

"I've never seen this face before, Khalabi." "I've never seen it, bro." "You know all the people who rent the Khalabi building, right?" "I know, bro... they're the people I see every day."

"What about the new people, have they moved in recently?"

"He's not coming... What's the matter? Are you suspicious of the people from Khalo?"

"It's not because I'm suspicious, sir... What we're seeing now is just so strange."
