Everyone has been there. When you think about yourself, sometimes you see funny things. I've had many of those.

When I first read it, I couldn't stand the sound of "cluck..cluck..cluck" in the novel. I especially didn't like the cute, soft laugh of a girl. In my mind, I could only see that "cluck..cluck" was a cat coughing with its head stretched out in front of it. It was "difficult" for a long time. Then it gradually became easier.

I, who used to be so confused, once watched a “Ghost Dance” at a winter festival in awe. I was swept away by the dance moves of the artist on stage wearing a monster hat. It was unbelievable. I was hooked.

On my way back from the festival, my mind was clouded with snow and mist. I thought. Does a monster really exist? If so, is it like this? Is it like this? And so on. But no matter what, I agree. I understood the meaning of “artistic freedom” before I had ever seen the word “artistic freedom.”

(The idea that art has autonomy, that art has to create a “new existence” based on natural existences... these things became ingrained in me.)

Once, at school, the teacher taught me how to write puppets as a form of knowledge. He patiently taught me (mouth + bird singing / mouth + dog barking / mouth + child screaming), etc. I was happy.

I used to yell at the teacher when I was too lazy to do it.

Teacher + reads a book/ Teacher + scolds/ Teacher + complains)... What's up. The whole room laughed. I had a little idea about that, and when I got older, I thought about it.

For example, the hungry "eyes" in Van Gogh's painting The Potato Eaters. If you put those eyes on a king, they would look different, if you put them on a hermit, if you put them on a newborn baby... and so on.

I discovered that as the combinations changed, the “meanings” changed. When I became an artist, this technique became somewhat important in my artistic creations.

(I later realized that this closely resembles both a technique called juxtaposition, often used in film, and a literary concept by literary critic Kenneth Burke.)

The usefulness of a cup depends on the “empty space” of the cup... I read this in a psychology book. So you can fill the cup by putting something in it. I learned to feel the “power” of the empty space. During that time, I read a book called “History of Art”.

I just came across the concept of the empty space again, which is interesting.

In the past, paintings were done on a full canvas. They were colored. Later, they left “empty areas” on the canvas, where nothing was drawn or colored. But those empty areas were also important in the painting, along with lines, colors, and figures. The one who made the painting deeper and higher was the one who released the “zero energy.” It gave me a lot of ideas.

I studied those paintings over and over again. I realized that in art, not saying or showing is as important as saying or showing. When I wrote my short stories, I began to mix “sharpness” with “blurryness.”

(On my part, undecidability has led to the reader's active participation. Henry Bate also proposed the Kiss Theory that the reader and the author can work together to create a short story.)

I have long since come to the conclusion that words alone cannot convey a full range of emotions. For example, the word “Hey.” If we were to write it alone, it would be very difficult for us to think. Is it a simple “Hey” that calls out to someone, or a “Hey” that jumps up and down with joy, or a “Hey” that is shouted out of fear by someone who is trying to stop you?

"Hey," it's hard to tell.
