The lion and the little mouse

A hungry lion was sleeping in the forest. When the little mice saw the lion sleeping, they thought it would be fun to climb on the lion's back and play hide and seek with him. They immediately started playing. Some of the little mice hid in the lion's thick mane. One little mouse hid under the lion's tail. Oh... one little mouse even hid under the lion's big hand. They thought it would be a great game to play hide and seek with him.

Just as he was thinking this, the lion suddenly woke up from his bed. When he woke up, he stretched his body and was surprised to see the little mice. The little mice were startled and ran away. They ran... They ran, but one little mouse was hiding under the lion's paw. So how could he run away? He had covered them with his big paw, right?

Well, the lion woke up hungry and at the same time angry at the little mouse that had come under his wing. So he decided to eat the little mouse. Now that he was his prisoner, he could do whatever he wanted, right?

But the little mouse raised her little hand, looked up at the lion's face in a pleading manner, and pleaded pitifully, "Oh, my lord, don't eat me. Eating me will never fill your stomach. So let me go. One day I will help you as much as I can. I really mean it."

The little mouse, who had no books, said, "I will help you," and the lion laughed. But he raised his big hand and let the little mouse go. The little mouse immediately ran away.

This went on for a long time, and the little mouse was playing. One day, while she was playing, she heard a loud noise. So the little mouse thought, "Hey, I know that sound. It must be my friend's voice. I'd better go and see."

The lion came to him, as expected. The lion had once set him free. Now he was lying there in pain. The little mouse went to his ear and asked him in a low voice, but his voice was lost in the roar of the lion. So the mouse went up to his ear and asked, “What happened?” The lion replied sternly, “Oh, don’t you see that I’m tied up with ropes?”

"Oh... is that too bad? I'll try to help you."

So the lion roared angrily and muttered, "What nonsense..."

When the lion closed his mouth, the mouse said... "Just stop roaring and roaring here, lion. I can let you go."

Yes.

Even so, the lion roared and snapped back, "What kind of work can a mouse do with its tiny hands?"

So the mouse said, "If I can't even bite through the rope, what are my sharp little teeth for?" And the mouse started to bite through the rope with her little teeth.

When the ropes were broken, the lion asked, “Wait, why are you so compassionate?” The mouse said, “Oh, don’t you remember when you let me go? I promised you the same thing once. I have done what I promised. Isn’t that right?” The lion reminded him.

The writer of this story lived about 500 years ago. His name was Aesop. He had a book of fables. Everyone still reads it. He was once a slave. But... his master liked his stories so much that he set them free. A king even invited him to his palace because he could tell stories. When he died, the Athenians erected a statue of him in Athens.
