“Two travelers who found two bundles of grass picked one up. After traveling a little, they found “two bundles of cotton” on the road. Leaving the bundle of grass and taking the bundle of cotton was the only thing that the two travelers should do. However, one of the travelers said, “I can’t leave the bundle of grass that I have brought all this way.” The second person is modern. He values ​​the value of material things. He doesn’t cling to the old. He has a progressive outlook. He left the bundle of grass and took the bundle of cotton.

When they had gone a little further, they found a sheep's wool. The first man had found a cotton wool, but he did not exchange "grass" for "cotton." He carried only the grass wool. He left the grass wool he had brought all this way, thinking, "Why should I carry the newly found wool wool?" and continued to carry the grass wool on his shoulders. The second man, however, carried only the more valuable things, one by one.

What was considered "righteous" up until now may become "unrighteous" in a situation that has become different from the past. What was considered "good" up until now may become "bad" in a situation that has changed in the present.

The meaning is, “Monks, I say that the Dhamma should be regarded as a raft. A raft is for crossing over to the other side. It is not for clinging to. In the same way, the Dhamma is for achieving liberation and peace. It is not for clinging to. If the Dhamma itself is not something to be clinged to, then what need is there to say about the Dhamma?”

The world is constantly changing. Spiritual and material phenomena are “temporary” phenomena. They change moment by moment. Historical eras also move from era to era. People’s ideas and concepts also change from time to time. The old ideas of the past are left in the past. The present has given birth to new ideas.

Darwin broke away from the old way of thinking and developed the new idea of ​​"evolution". Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo developed the new idea of ​​the "copernicus" that the earth revolves around the sun. Newton presented the "law of gravitation" to the public.

Old eras are over. New eras have taken their place. Old ideas have been replaced by new ideas. In this modern era, scientists and philosophers are no longer thinking about things in the old, traditional ways, but are thinking in new ways.
