His Excellency (Comrade) attending the Nobel Prize in Literature reception held at Stockholm City Hall on December 10, 1934.
“I am very pleased to express my sincere gratitude to your Excellency for the reception you have given me. If I may continue my expression of my deepest gratitude, I would like to say that the kindness with which you have welcomed me this evening is incomparable to anything that was presented to me by your Excellency the King in August 1934. I will conclude this evening’s presentation with a solemn and solemn welcome, which I have received with great solemnity.
I would also like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to the jury that has decided to award me the distinguished prize of the great Royal Swedish Academy, which has crowned me throughout my literary career.
As for the success of my literary endeavors, I went to school. Although that school did not necessarily produce brilliant minds, one thing was certain: it helped me develop a kind heart. It was the spirit of mindfulness, of not being distracted, of forgiving, of being the first to receive the right kind of child, of being an obedient disciple. In fact, because there were teachers, and because they lived their lives, that disciple would come to believe in everything he taught. And he would never give up his full destiny. That destiny simply laid the foundation for my future.
I am someone who has felt the need for such faith, in the aspects of my life that have been skeptical or isolated.
I have learned and pondered the lessons of constant awareness and deep love, and have become a person of balance, love, justice, and respect in life. Life is also surrounded by things that are not necessary for us to understand, but are present, including mistakes of ignorance, terrible wounds, bitter experiences, and bitter misunderstandings. Let us consider them as our profound and valuable experiences.
Such psychological education requires a lot of investment. That investment must allow me to grow and develop.
Speeches from the Nobel Prize ceremony At the same time, I have to be myself.
They left behind a life of fulfillment and talent so that my true endeavors could flourish, and now I am truly an artist. An artist is only as capable of thoughts and feelings. Those thoughts exist because I feel them. Oh... feelings exist because I think them, yes. They are actually my own illusions that I create. So what do I feel and what do I believe when I create them?
Your Excellency, I am so grateful to you. I am also very happy. I don't know if I am even proud, but I am saying that you have bestowed upon me a unique and valuable award.
I would like to assure you that this literary prize is not awarded for the artistic merit of a writer. Such a prize is not always given lightly, but rather for the human purity of all my literary works. Let me first mention the comment of Professor Goran Liljestrand of the Caroline Institute.
“The human society is a higher unit of life than the individual. There are decisions of different kinds. And there are also more complexities. Such conflicts arise only from the subjects of literary works like Mr. Pirandello’s. Now, there are many questions to be asked about the problems. There are also other places. Look at medicine, look at science.
Mr. Pirandello is understood as a philosopher, a poet, a playwright. He has written about the different aspects of human nature. In fact, he studies how diseases change. He also studies the most secret areas of relationships, from ordinary states of mind. Finally, he is a man who penetrates the vague border between reality and dreams. That is why I honor him as one of the great artists and intellectuals who have lived in the Dhamma.”
Luigi Pirandello
Luigi Pirandello was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1934. He was born in Italy on June 28, 1867, and died on December 10, 1936, at the age of 19. He was a playwright, short story writer, and poet. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his innovative work on the stage and in the theater.
