Meaning of life
"For in and out, above, about, below,
'Tis nothing but a Magic Shadow-show,
Play'd in a Box whose Candle is the Sun,
Round which we Phantom
"Figures come and go."
This is a fragment of a poem by the great Persian poet Omar Khayyam. The meaning is ....
"Inside and outside, under the
Nothing but a magic show.
They are acting in a magic box.
The sun is a candle in a magic box.
"Our shadows come and go."
Omar Khayyam's idea is that human life is meaningless. It is like a magic show, where children see miracles, disappear, and finally end in death.
The great English poet Shakespeare said the same thing. Shakespeare said, “All the world's a stage.”
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their existences and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts, ....."
"All the world's a stage"
All men and women are just characters.
There are things they have to go out for,
There are also those who have to come in.
Within a person's lifetime, lives
"I danced in various ways..."
Many poets and writers have studied human life from different perspectives. The basics of nation and race are similar. What is this similarity? ...
"Human life is fleeting," they say.
Human life is just a long journey between two milestones: birth and death. No matter what happens along the way, no matter what achievements you may have, in the end you will only return to earth as an empty body. That is why it is important to find happiness and contentment in the short time before death.
If Omar Khayyam...
"Here with a Loaf of Bread."
beneath the Bough,
A Flask of Wine, a Book of Verse -
and You
Beside me singing in the Wilderness -
And Wilderness is Paradise now."
"Here, under a loaf of bread and a painting,
A bottle of wine, a book of poetry, and you.
In the darkness of the forest, my friend
I will be singing songs.
"Then the dark forest is a paradise for the hunters."
He even said it.
Omar Khayyam's ideas can be said to be the forerunners of the later nihilism, theism, and existentialism. All of these ideologies were tired of the emptiness and futility of human life and tried to find true "happiness" and "peace." All religions have also realized the emptiness and futility of human life and have sought "happiness" and "peace" in their own ways.
Omar Khayyam, in his own way, sought "heaven" in this world. All religions, except Buddhism, say that "heaven" cannot be found in this world. It can only be found after death and in the next life.
Buddhism believes that "eternal happiness" or "nibbana" (bliss) can be achieved in the afterlife, even while still alive. This is the main difference between the teachings of the Buddha and other religions. Omar Khayyam and other ultramaterialists, who do not believe in Western religious ideas, do not accept dialectical materialism, and have not seriously studied the Buddha's theism, have been trying to explain and explain in various ways what "bliss" is and what "truth" is. Omar Khayyam continues...
"Ah, fill the cup:-what boots it to repeat
How Time is slipping beneath our Feet:
Unborn TO-MORROW, and dead YESTERDAY,
Why fret about them if TODAY be sweet!"
"Fill the cup, why are you so slow to refill it?"
How much time is beneath our feet?
Have they slipped out?
Tomorrow is not yet born. Yesterday is dead.
I have gone,
"If today is so beautiful, why worry about those things?" he even said.
There is only one small difference between humans and animals. That is the point of “charity.” Animals only know for their own sake. They see. They don't understand what is for the common good. Humans know, see, and act for the common good.
Human life is not “empty” as the old and new Omar Khayyams believe. It is very meaningful. And as they say, human life is not just about sleeping, eating, and having sex. It has a much broader meaning and a deeper meaning. There is a saying that goes, “There are two types of people in the world: one lives to eat, the other eats to live.” We need to examine ourselves to see which type we belong to.
The "sleep, eat, and have sex" type that lives to eat is actually a living creature that has come into the human world but has not yet become a human. Animals also do all three of these things: sleep, eat, and have sex. Therefore, there is an English word for a living creature that only does these three things, and it ends with two legs. It is Manimal.
There is only one small difference between humans and animals. That is the fact of “charity”. Animals only know for their own sake. They look. They don’t understand what is for the common good. Humans know, look, and act for the common good. By acting on this “charity”, they can experience happiness and “happiness”. Everyone who has a charitable heart knows that.
When I see someone in need or suffering being relieved of their suffering, I feel a sense of joy and happiness. The feeling of joy and happiness that arises in my heart is the most noble, the most peaceful, and the most genuine happiness, apart from happiness of peace. This happiness and happiness cannot be created by force. It cannot be bought with money. Animals cannot experience this happiness.
They don't understand. Some of them think that if they do something they like, for example, a glass of wine like Omar Khayyam, a book of poetry, or a lover, they have reached paradise and achieved "happiness." Some think that if they are endowed with money, position, and power, they have achieved "happiness." But they are not aware of the suffering that they are suffering because of this money. They think that the flower of hell is a flower of gold. When they see that those who can wear diamonds and gold are in large and strong buildings and are surrounded by thick walls so that outsiders cannot enter, they do not realize that they are actually fencing themselves off and locking themselves in.
There is only one way to experience true happiness, prosperity, and well-being while we still have this precious little life. It is easy and simple.
"If you want to be happy, make others happy" is just a simple way.
