Shakespeare's stories

( Second volume)

Order

In Shakespeare's Tales (First Volume), Saya Maung Thein Lwin plays the merchant of Venice, He presented three plays, Julius Caesar and King Lear, translated into prose.

The talented writer Maung Thein Lwin has translated three plays in this second volume: Teaching the Good Tongue, The Storm, and Macbeth. Of these three, Macbeth has been the most popular play among literary critics.

The December 31, 1999, issue of Time magazine honored William Shakespeare as the BARD OF THE CENTURY . That's right. Shakespeare is a great man, but he is not great.

Now, thanks to Maung Thein Lwin, young students can read (3) of Shakespeare's famous plays in English prose and Burmese prose. I hope that he will continue to translate the remaining plays in the future. After this message, I will return to the summary I made in the first message. For those who are studying English, it is now possible to read classic literature in easy English prose, so I will just say that the time has come to see the golden pot.

In the beautiful town of Pia, in Italy, there once lived a rich man named Baptista, who had two daughters: the gentle and beautiful Tienca and Catherine.

Katharine was as beautiful as her sister, but she had such an ungovernable temper that she was always known as Katharine the Shrew. Everyone was afraid of her angry tongue, and in spite of her beautiful face she had no admirers.

Katharine was Baptista's elder daughter, and he began to fear that she would never find a husband. Many men wanted to marry Bianca, but no one was willing to risk marriage with the bad-tempered Katharine. At last Baptista decided on a plan. He announced that Katharing must be married before Bianca; it was the elder sister's right. Bianca's admirers at once began to look around for a man who would be brave enough to marry this wild eat, 'Katharine the cursed.'

Catherine is as beautiful as her sister... but... she has an uncontrollable temper. Because of this uncontrollable temper and anger... she is forever called "the devil's tongue... Catherine." Everyone is afraid of her... her fierce tongue. That's why... her face is so elegant and beautiful... she doesn't have a boyfriend.

Catherine is the eldest daughter of Baptista, and he begins to worry that Catherine will never have a husband. Many men want to marry Bianca. But no one wants to risk marrying the temperamental Catherine. Finally, Becquebec decides to make a plan. Catherine must marry Bianca first... It is the right of a sister... He declares. Those who love Bianca must immediately look for someone who is brave enough to marry the harsh-tongued Catherine.

Now, in Verona, another Italian town, there lived a rich and gay young man called Petruchio. His father had recently died and left him plenty of money, and Petruchio now wished to see the world and find a wife. So he went to Padua, and there he met a friend, Hortensio, one of the young men who wanted to marry looking for a wife, and Hortensio at once thought of Katharine the Shrew, Petruchio was a strongwilled young man; surely he would be able to make Katharine obey him? He was merry and good-tempered, too, and clever and amusing. Altogether, he was a wise young man, and would know how to tame an ill-tempered wife.

In another city in Italy, Verona, there lived a man named Petruchio. He was a rich and happy young man. His father had recently died... and left him a lot of money. So he wanted to travel around the country and find a wife.

So he set out for the strategic city. When he arrived there... he met a friend named Hortenseio. He was one of the young men who wanted to marry Tienca. Petruchio told him that he was also looking for a wife.

Hortenseio is a good-natured man... I immediately thought of Catherine. Petruchio is a strong-willed young man. Can he really make Catherine obey him? He is cheerful and good-natured. He is clever and has a sense of humor. All in all... he is a wise young man, and knows how to discipline a bad-tempered wife.
