          First word

This book is intended for readers who are interested in literature (art) and want to study it. As it is called a basic book, it will only be able to present basic information. It will not be able to comprehensively describe a particular type of literature in terms of history. Similarly, it will not be able to critically analyze and evaluate a particular type of literature. By the nature of the book, it will only present the characteristics of literature in a general sense for the general reader (or general reader). If there are any gaps or incomplete ideas, I said to myself, "Let others correct them" before starting the book.

The subject matter of literature and art is very vast. It is also very complex. It is also very delicate. Like being in the middle of the ocean, there is no beginning and no end, so you don’t know where to start, what to tackle first. Simply put, there is so much to say that you don’t know where to start. Especially writers (regardless of the genre of literature) have often experienced this. Now, I am experiencing the same thing. Where should I start? Since this is intended for a general readership, I will start with “Vocabulary and Explanations”.

                                Vocabulary, definition, explanation

It is easy to talk about any subject in a casual way. It is not so easy when you talk about it seriously or as a scholar. The meaning and significance of the words you use to express the subject, whether you reach the intended meaning, how the audience interprets it, the intended meaning and the meaning the audience gets, etc. can have many and complicated effects. A word is used with this meaning in one place, but it is used with another meaning in another place. It is clear in one place, but it is confused in another place. After explaining one thing, it is necessary to repeat it in another place. This is normal when talking about science.

Sometimes this happens. The speaker and writer themselves hesitate and stammer, either out of concern that what they have said and written will reach the reader, or out of a desire to make it understood.

This is when you have to repeatedly erase and edit your writing because you can't control yourself. What I mean is that writing is not smooth, it is difficult and complicated. As mentioned above, it is clear in one place but confused in another. It happens when you don't get to where you want to go.

Therefore, we should try to make it as clear as possible (even if the subject is difficult) as easy as possible. We should be careful. In trying to make it clear and easy, we should first define the terms. Terminology means the words that are used regularly in our subject. Literary Term (Literary Term)op calculoqGolosspapendwasač 38:: The definition should be considered as included. That is, it is not the words that are used with the ordinary meaning such as “man”, “dog”, “tree”, “stone”, “sleep”, “eat”, “go”. Within a scientific field, it is used with this meaning here. There is a defined meaning that it is used with that meaning there. It may be the same as the general use, the common use in three villages. It may be different. The fact that it is specifically defined should be obvious. Therefore, we should pay attention to the terminology and terminology in the subject we want to speak or write.

It is not enough to just define the terms. If necessary, you must explain them. There are times when you need to give explanations to make it clear. It is called a definition. In the form of a metaphor, the term "image" is shown. The meaning and use of the term "metaphor" in literature and art must be explained in a broad way.

It should be explained in terms of what meaning is intended and used. When we say "definition", we should consider that the meaning is already included. Let's think about it further. The English word "Image" is used to translate and use the word "image". (Teacher)

Zawgyi's translation.) The same English term is used in other fields of study. For example, the meaning of Image in Postmodern literary theories is slightly different from the meaning of metaphor. It is closer to (Word Image Sound Image) in Linguistics. (That is why in some previous articles I have used the translation as sensory image.) It is necessary to clarify where and how metaphor is used, where and how sensory image is used, etc. It must be defined. Therefore, it is not enough to simply define the terms. It must also be defined and clarified as necessary.

English vocabulary

There is one thing to note about this book. That is the inclusion of “English terms.” Some scholars have criticized the inclusion of English terms. The criticism of the scholars is not important. However, it is necessary to explain to the general reader/student why they are included. The main reason is that there is not yet a precise definition of academic terms, subject terms, or because there are still few. English terms are already in use and established. Other

Compared to other languages (French, German, etc.), English is relatively close. For example, the word Allegory has no fixed definition. It contains a mixture of metaphor, simile, symbol, and metaphor. It is used here with this meaning. It is explained that it is used with this meaning. The English language does not need to be explained. It is already known that this word means this here. Therefore, English words are included together. It is also included in this book.

There is another reason. Due to the nature of language, the imprecision and uncertainty of the meaning of words must also be taken into account. Scholars often translate a word in various ways according to their original ideas. Typically, RHYTHM is translated as “ເນີ”, “ເສື່ອງ”, “ເສື່ອງນານານ”, etc. The scope of the original word is also very wide. There is also a song by “Htoo Ein Thin” with RHYTHM. There is also “ສາງອງອນາ

The English vocabulary is used. It is up to the researchers to continue studying. If you consider the nature of the science, you will see that the English scholars of the colonial era spoke Burmese differently from the English words they “cut” and spoke.

Another thing is that some literary terms are used directly without translation. This issue needs to be addressed. In general, the term modern is often used to mean “modern,” “contemporary,” “new era,” “up-to-date,” etc. (This has been discussed in previous articles.)

(I have said a lot in the past.) It is not precise. There are times when it is not precise, but it is used in general terms. I think it would be better if such terms were used directly, with a change of tone. It should be considered that the intention is to avoid generalization. It raises the question of whether it would be good if there was a Burmese translation.

Good. It would be great if expert groups and academies could translate it. We will use some of the original pronunciations for a moment. We will add some English words and compare them.
