Chapter (1)
The first part of the journey

I first started programming for a computer when I was 13 years old.

I wrote. A program is a set of instructions that tell a computer what to do. The program I wrote was a program that told a computer to play a game. The computer was very big and very slow. It didn't have a computer screen. But I thought the thing I had invented was amazing. I was just a child. But the computer did everything I asked it to do. To this day, I love computers because they can do whatever I want. Whenever I write good programs, the computer always does it for me.

Computers are our toys. We all grew up with computers. When we grew up, we brought computers with us along with our toys. Nowadays, we have computers in our homes and offices. Computers have changed our lives. And now, more changes are happening. Now, all the computers are coming together to form a new system. In this system, all the computers around the world are coming together.

We are working together on a task. The computers we have are going to become our telephones, our post offices, our libraries, and our banks. When we talk about this new system, we call it the Internet. This book will clarify questions about the future of the Internet. That is, what the Internet will look like and how it will be used. Sometimes, when we talk about the future of the Internet, we call it the 'Information Highway.'

*

The emergence of this “news highway” will bring us new things to do. New things are not familiar to people. They are still new. Sometimes people are afraid of new things. But they are also excited about new things. Being human in this new and exciting time, we have to participate.

I am very happy.

I had experienced that feeling, that joy before. After writing my first program at the age of 13, my friend Paul Allen and I spent hours working on computers. Computers were very cheap back then. You could rent a computer for $40 an hour. We saved up money for that by working during the summer. We worked for computer companies.

My friend Paul knows more about computers than I do. I'm more interested in programming. But if there's anything about computers, you can learn from Paul. One day in 1972, I was 16 years old. Paul was 19. Paul gave me a book he had written to read. The book was about the Intel company. It was about the development of a new microprocessor chip.

A microprocessor is a part of a computer that can do thinking. I want to write programs for this newly developed device, the microprocessor. Then we can do the programming work. But I don't make much money.

Intel's new microprocessor came out in 1974. This one was smarter than the previous one. When I read about it, I told Paul that the role of big computers was over.

But the new idea excited us. It made us excited. In December of that year, 1974, we saw a picture of the Altair 8800. Altair was a company that made small computers (microcomputers). This Altair 8800 had the new Intel microprocessor installed. When we saw that picture, we thought, "Oh, yeah, yeah."

"Oh... no, people are going to write new programs for that shit."

"Yes, I designed the program for that device. In that program, I

"I'm sure it will be included."

We worked hard on this project. It took us 5 weeks to complete. Finally, we were successful. Our Ao(la)tai

We were able to program for it. And we had a lot more to do. We were the ones who started programming for microcomputers. We called those things Microsoft.

Starting a company is not easy. Sometimes you can't do what you want. I love university. I love it. I love talking to smart people and exchanging ideas. I have decided to leave university. I am 19 years old.
